Sokolnice combines Baroque history, a diverse cultural landscape and routes for cycling and nature experiences. Those who are looking for more than just a single excursion destination when planning their trip will find historical sites, château architecture, protected habitats and regional events within a compact village setting.

Baroque Sýpka and Château History

One of the prominent buildings is the Baroque Sýpka. It dates from the first quarter of the 18th century and is considered an important landmark of the municipality. Its history is also connected with the Battle of the Three Emperors in 1805: During the battle, the Sýpka served as a strategic base for the French army.

Sokolnice Château also reflects several construction phases. It originally developed from a Renaissance fortress; its last major renovations were carried out in the mid-19th century in the English Gothic Revival style. The château grounds include the Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which is referred to as the eastern or Renaissance wing. Inside, it preserves wall paintings by the painter Josef Stern, which are still visible in their entirety today.

River Landscape, Forest and Protected Nature

Sokolnice lies in the flat Dyjsko-svratecký úval on the right bank of the Říčka, also known as Zlatý potok. The Sokolnická bažantnice gives the area its own landscape character. The complex comprises floodplain and lowland forests, semi-cultural meadows and park-like areas. The protected Žabárník area is also located in the northwestern surroundings, in the floodplain of the Dunávka. Endangered birds, amphibians and reptiles find a habitat there.

For nature enthusiasts, an educational trail in Obora Sokolnice complements this landscape experience with six stations. The protected areas and the educational trail each focus on different aspects: here, the habitat function of the floodplain takes center stage, while there, the focus is on gradually exploring a designated route.

Cycling Route and Memorial Sites of the Battlefield

Cycling Route 5063 runs through Sokolnice along the Tuřany–Kobylnice–Sokolnice–Újezd u Brna route. Via Šlapanice, it also connects the local cycling network with the cycling routes in Ždánický les, the cycling network of the Slavkov battlefield and the Moravian Karst. This route is particularly relevant when choosing accommodation if cultural and landscape experiences are to be combined with a cycling tour.

Sokolnice is also a station on the Battle of the Three Emperors educational trail. Along the trail, observation stations commemorate important sites of the former battlefield. This makes it possible to explore the historical dimension of the region not only through its buildings, but also through the landscape and its memorial sites.

Traditions, Chapels and Wine Tastings

The local events calendar includes the traditional Jánské krojované hody, featuring a dance by Česká beseda. The program of Jánské hody 2025 included the ceremonial handover of the festival rights in front of the Sokolovna building as well as a procession through Sokolnice.

A chapel stands on the village square and is considered a Marian chapel because a statue of the Virgin Mary stands at the center of its altar. No explicit consecration has been established. Historically, the chapel was the setting for church services, Corpus Christi processions and an annual pilgrimage mass. The association Spolek přátel dobrého vína provides another local highlight by organizing wine tastings.
