If you would like to combine landscape, cycling and long-standing village traditions during your stay in Czechia, Lomnička lies within a clearly defined natural setting. The village is situated at an elevation of 277 metres in a rounded valley bordered by low hills. Květnice is regarded as the valley’s most significant elevation. The Besének stream also flows through Lomnička. The valley, the stream and the hilly surroundings provide the village with a landscape framework in which short cycle tours, regional connections and cultural-historical discoveries stand side by side.

Landscape and Cycling along the Besének

The “Odbočka Lomnička – Lomnice” cycle-path section is 2.78 kilometres long and can be planned as a clearly defined part of a cycling tour. At the entrance to the village, there is also a connection to international cycle route No. 1 Praha – Brno – Vídeň (Greenways). The international route runs via Tišnov and Drásov to Brno. When planning your day, you can therefore distinguish between a manageable local section and a connection with a regional route.

Along the Besének River, provisions have been made for routing cycle traffic. According to the regional guidelines, the Pražská cycle path is planned for this route. The river landscape adds another connection to the surroundings alongside the cycle-path section and the Greenways connection. A short section in the village, the route along the Besének and the route via Tišnov, Drásov and Brno represent different scales of distance for a day on the bicycle.

Cultural-Historical Traces in the Village

A distinctive feature of the village-square complex is the Chapel of St. Frederick. It is a valuable cultural-historical monument and shapes the space of the village square in Lomnička. The chapel is said to be a late Baroque building dating from 1756. In 1852, it was rebuilt by Bedřich Schell of Schellenberk, the former owner of the Tišnov estate. The village square thus brings together architectural history and the history of the former Tišnov estate.

A wayside shrine was erected on Čimperk in 1866 to commemorate a Prussian-Austrian skirmish near Tišnov. The shrine therefore marks a historical connection outside the village-square complex. The village’s history thus extends from the chapel in the centre to a memorial marker on Čimperk.

Traditions throughout the Year

Lomnička also preserves customs that shape the course of the year in the village. The Babské hody in September have a long-standing tradition here. In Lomnička, Masopust follows the Epiphany collection. The annual calendar therefore places a winter custom alongside the September tradition of Babské hody. These recurring customs complement the landscape and historic sites with a cultural rhythm.
