Medlov combines an open landscape with prominent evidence of the town’s history. The town is located in the open, treeless landscape of the Dyjsko-svratecký úval on the left bank of the Jihlava. At the same time, the area is part of the Niva Jihlava Nature Park. The connection with the river is precisely defined: Medlov lies on the left bank of the Jihlava, not merely in its wider surroundings. The landscape name Dyjsko-svratecký úval refers to the open, treeless area in which the town is located.

Church and Monuments in the Town

The local architectural landmark is the Baroque Church of St. Bartholomew. Its core is Gothic and dates from the late 13th century. It is precisely this coexistence of different periods that makes the church a particularly tangible piece of local history: its present-day Baroque character rests on a medieval core. Its combination of Baroque form and a Gothic core makes the church a place where different eras come together.

There is also a column with a group of figures representing the Holy Trinity on Medlov’s village square. It was erected in 1698. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is also among Medlov’s particularly noteworthy monuments. Traditional local events in Medlov include the Bartolomějské hody. “Medlov sobě” is also part of the town’s cultural calendar and takes place annually; an invitation was issued for 15 June 2024. Fishing competitions were announced at Medlovské jezero for May. This event adds a special occasion by the water to the cultural calendar.
