Skryje Among Castle Traces and the Bobrovka Valley

Skryje combines a distinctive landscape with an unusually diverse range of cultural traces. The municipality is home to the vanished Rysov Castle, the listed Buchalův mlýn watermill and the partially completed AKA complex. At the same time, numerous hiking trails lead from the picturesque Bobrovka Valley to the hilltops. The village therefore offers various starting points for a trip in which you would like to combine nature and history.

Castles, a Chapel and a Historic Mill

The vanished Rysov Castle is a cultural monument in the Skryje area. Rysov was a feudal residence in the form of a castle with a keep complex dating from the end of the 13th to the middle of the 14th century. The complex survives in the terrain and in fragments of masonry; it is considered an archaeological and cultural-historical monument site. The place therefore represents not only a single ruin, but also the medieval history of the municipality.

A chapel stands on a hill at the site where Hrádek once stood. Another historical point of interest is Buchalův mlýn. The listed watermill is located at House No. 13 in Skryje on the Bobrůvka, which is also called the Loučka. In its present form, it is a high-quality example of rural Baroque from the beginning of the 19th century, with an older core.

The AKA Complex in Skryje

The AKA complex, designed by Fuchs, has a distinctive history. It was planned as a coherent urban structure: on the right bank of the river there were a factory and a settlement of single-family houses; on the left bank, accommodation, a community building used as a cinema, and technical infrastructure including a waterworks, bridges and a hydroelectric power station. The hydroelectric power station was completed in 1942.

Construction of the AKA complex in Skryje began between 1937 and 1939, but was completed only in part. The surviving elements of the complex include, in particular, residential houses, a bridge and a water-supply structure. Those interested in architectural and local history will therefore find here, alongside older castle and mill traces, evidence of a more recent, industrially oriented planning concept.

Hiking in the Bobrovka Valley

Numerous hiking trails lead from the picturesque Bobrovka Valley through the Skryje municipality to practically every hilltop. A red-marked hiking trail also leads from Skryje towards Šafránkův mlýn. This connection makes the village interesting for visitors who do not want to spend their time exclusively visiting cultural monuments, but also wish to explore the landscape along paths through the municipality.

There are several spring wells and natural springs with high-quality water in the Skryje area. Because of the falling groundwater level, some of them are no longer active. This development is part of the village's present-day landscape history and should be taken into account when assessing the individual springs.

For a trip to Skryje, travel by bus to the terminus in the municipality is envisaged. In addition, you can also consider Ponětovice, Unín, Silůvky, Ivančice, Zbraslav, Biskoupky, Svatoslav and Lesní Hluboké.
