Odrovice

Odrovice combines distinctive religious buildings with a cycling route running through the village and a landscape extending into Niva Jihlavy Nature Park. The Church of Our Lady Help of Christians is particularly characteristic. Together with the roadside chapels, the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk and the historic details of the Boží muka shrine, they create a cultural profile that can be easily combined with a journey through the landscape along the Jihlava River.

Church, Statues and Roadside Chapels

The Church of Our Lady Help of Christians is Odrovice’s architectural landmark and is considered a monument of local significance. The building was constructed in the Neo-Romanesque style in 1900. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands by the church and is registered as an immovable cultural monument. It is a valuable Baroque sculpture from 1772 by the Moravian sculptor Ondřej Schweigl. Its architecturally distinctive pedestal is accompanied by a stone balustrade enclosure.

At the southern edge of Odrovice stands a roadside chapel dating from the second half of the 18th century, registered as an immovable cultural monument. The late Baroque building has a triangular floor plan, three narrow niches and a three-sided pyramidal roof covered with plain tiles. It is crowned by an equal-armed cross with forged botanical decoration.

A separate historical trace is provided by the Boží muka roadside chapel, a late Gothic monument from 1521. Its figurative decoration depicts Saint Andrew, the Mount of Olives and the Crucifixion. A relief panel has been preserved on the chapel; beneath the only surviving sculpture of Saint Andrew is an architecturally, rather than figuratively, designed console. The chapel is considered an exceptionally valuable cultural monument. Its importance lies both in its artistic execution and in the historical memory of the landscape.

Cycling Route and Paths through Odrovice

Cycling Route No. 5171 is important when planning a bicycle trip: the Brněnská Wine Trail passes through Odrovice. The marked cycle path through the village is designated as the Uherčice–Těšany section of this wine trail. Road II/395 also passes through Odrovice. By contrast, there is no marked hiking trail through Odrovice or its cadastral territory.

Niva Jihlavy Nature Park and Fishing at Potůček

Parts of Odrovice’s cadastral territory lie within Niva Jihlavy Nature Park. The nature park is shaped by the naturally meandering Jihlava River and encompasses an approximately 8 km-long, flat valley floodplain of the Jihlava. Its purpose combines the protection of the landscape character with appropriate tourism and recreation. In the Potůček fishing grounds, fishing is permitted from publicly accessible locations in the section near Odrovice. Those who wish to give nature observation, the landscape and fishing greater emphasis in their travel planning than architecture and monuments will find a clearly distinct thematic focus here.
