Skalička – Mill, Resistance History and Hiking Trails

Skalička combines the landscape of the Lubě Valley with an unusually rich history in a small area. The village lies in the hills below Paní hora, north of Kuřim. Between the stream, historical traces, sports area and marked trails, it offers a diverse destination for anyone who wants to combine culture and outdoor activities.

Historical Traces Around Lubě

The oldest building structure in Skalička is the Žandovský mlýn mill, which stands in the middle of the village by the Lubě stream. For many years, the building has hosted cultural and social gatherings. The mill is therefore not only a historical landmark, but also a place where the village’s history remains connected with its social life.

Another trace leads to the site of the former fortress, which is still called Hradisko today. The fortress existed in the 16th century; a reference from 1573 already described it as ruined. The name thus preserves the memory of a former structure, without implying that a castle complex survives there today.

The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas is also part of the village landscape. It dates from 1923. The Partisan Monument near Skalička marks a different historical focus. It is dedicated to members of General Luža’s 3rd Assault Company and was unveiled in 1946. The modern historical background reaches further back: in 1944–1945, Skalička was an important center of antifascist resistance in the Tišnovsko region.

Water, Sports and the Cesty medu Educational Trail

The sports area by the artificial body of water adds a distinctly different aspect to the historical themes. It includes a paddling pool measuring 23 × 3.5 m, with a volume of approximately 15 m³ and a water temperature of 23–25 °C. The area also includes a court for tennis or nohejbal. Those who want to combine different activities during their stay can therefore find water and sports at the same described location.

Another way to explore Skalička and its surroundings thematically is provided by the Cesty medu educational trail. It is approximately 3 kilometers long. The seventh information panel is located on the outskirts of Skalička u Tišnova, beside a cycle path. There, visitors can view a glass observation beehive. In addition, ordinary tourists can view a glass observation beehive on the access road to the apiary. The two described viewing opportunities make beekeeping a specific focus of the educational trail.

Hiking Trails Connecting to the Surroundings

A green-marked hiking trail passes through Skalička. It runs to the Nad Lipůvkou signpost, where it connects to a red-marked trail toward Blansko and Kuřim. For orientation, it is therefore not only the village center itself that matters: the marked route connects Skalička with a further route choice between the directions of Blansko and Kuřim.
