Discover Hluboké Dvory: Rocks, History and Cycle Route 5268

Hluboké Dvory combines a distinctive landscape with tangible traces of history. Hluboké Dvory can be explored through a variety of features: the flat upland and the deep valleys carved by the Lubě stream, the Krkatá bába rock formation, the Trmačov ruins, the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, as well as routes for cycling and hiking trips. This allows you to shape your stay around different interests: nature observation, activity and discoveries of cultural history.

Upland, valleys and the rocks of Krkatá bába

The cadastral territory of Hluboké Dvory consists of a flat upland with deep valleys carved by the Lubě stream and its tributaries. Krkatá bába on the left bank of the Lubě forms a particularly striking landscape feature. The rock formation is about 500 metres long and includes rock towers and blocks up to 15 metres high. The best-known rock tower resembles a head on a long neck in shape.

Krkatá bába is protected as a natural monument. The protected features include significant rock formations with natural dwarf oak–pine communities. The rock formation lies partly within the cadastral territory of Hluboké Dvory and can be reached via a walkable tourist trail. For you, this means a direct experience of nature in which not only the relief but also the special connection between the rocks and vegetation takes centre stage.

Cycling and routes to historical sites

Cycle Route 5268 runs through Hluboké Dvory along the Žernovník – Lubě – Trmačov – Skalička route.

A blue-marked trail also leads from Hluboké Dvory nearly one kilometre south to the Trmačov ruins. The ruins are a state-protected cultural monument. Trmačov Fortress was built less than one kilometre south of present-day Hluboké Dvory; it is expressly documented for the years 1350 to 1418, while in 1466 it was already mentioned as abandoned. At this site, the visible ruins therefore meet a clearly documented medieval history.

The blue-marked hiking trail from Trmačov leads to a large partisan monument dating from 1946. The monument commemorates the resistance activities of General Luža’s 3rd Assault Company in the Tišnov region from 1944 to 1945. This route complements the medieval history with evidence from the 20th century and offers another historical perspective on the region.

Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Another cultural highlight is located directly by the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It dates from 1838 and contains statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint John of Nepomuk. Beside the chapel stands a marble cross on a sandstone pedestal dating from 1906. The two dates make the chapel both a place with its own architectural history and a small ensemble with a later memorial feature.
