Veverská Bítýška – Culture, Mill and Slešťůvka

Veverská Bítýška offers a varied selection of cultural and nature experiences. These include insights into an important mill, sacred details from the 17th century, an atonement stone dating from 1559 and a landscape feature with different biotopes. This allows you to tailor your stay to your interests and choose between cultural history, technology and a short nature trail.

Jarošův mlýn: Mill Building and Technical Details

One special stop is Jarošův mlýn. Visitors can see the entire mill building, the machinery needed to process the individual products, as well as the water channel with its sluice gate. In addition, visitors have access to areas of the mill that are strictly off-limits to visitors during operation for hygiene and safety reasons. Jarošův mlýn was declared a cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. The tour therefore focuses on both the structural parts of the mill and its machinery and water channel.

The Church of St. James and the Smírčí kámen

The Church of St. James (Farní kostel sv. Jakuba) draws attention to several details from the 17th century. Its tower contains four bells from this period, while the interior features a baptismal font from the 17th century. The church adds a sacred aspect to the history of the mill, without requiring you to limit yourself to a single attraction.

An independent testimony to the history of the locality is Smírčí kámen, a carved atonement stone dating from 1559. On the side facing the road, a visible remnant of the upright arm of the former cross has been preserved. For orientation, the stone is located approximately 150 metres before the outskirts of Veverská Bítýška, on the right side of the Hvozdec–Bítýška road.

Slešťůvka: Biotopes, Chapel and Educational Trail

The important Slešťůvka landscape feature (VKP) lies on the southern edge of Veverská Bítýška. It covers approximately five hectares and contains different biotopes. These include a small wetland, a chapel with a spring, grassland and the remains of an old apple orchard. Protected species listed in the Red List have also been found in the Slešťůvka VKP. The various landscape components give this area a clearly recognisable character of its own.

The Slešťůvka educational trail is no more than two kilometres long; its main axis is a footpath leading to the chapel. This information helps you assess a nature outing in advance, while the individual stops reveal different aspects of the landscape feature. For planning your day, you can therefore choose between visiting the mill or church, taking the educational trail to the chapel and specifically looking for the atonement stone located by the roadside.
