Štěpánovice combines riverside landscapes, wooded slopes and several historic buildings and monuments. The town lies on the Svratka River and is surrounded by the wooded slopes of the peaks of the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. The Svratka provides the connection to the river landscape, while the wooded slopes of the nature park’s peaks define the surrounding scenery. Those who want to combine riverside scenery and forest will find both in the town’s surroundings. Štěpánovice therefore offers a clear natural setting for a stay combining walks, hiking trails, cycling tours and culture.

Hiking Trails and Landscape Along the Svratka

A red-marked hiking trail runs through Štěpánovice. Blue- and yellow-marked hiking trails also begin at Štěpánovice railway station. The three marked trails are thus distributed between the town and the railway station as starting points. Together with the location on the Svratka and the wooded slopes of the peaks of the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park, this creates a combination of town, river and forest.

Cycling Routes with Different Highlights

For cyclists, the short cycling route between Borač and Kaly offers terrain suitable for mountain bikes. Those looking for a different route idea can take the 23-kilometre Na Babylon cycling route, which leads via Tišnov, Štěpánovice, Borač, the Babylon lookout tower, the Křivoš lookout tower, Kaly, Dolní Loučky and Předklášteří back to Tišnov. On the Štěpánovice–Podolí section of the short cycling route, it is possible to use the train.

Small Monuments and Local History

Several different buildings also shape the townscape of Štěpánovice culturally. The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius is one of the historic monuments of Štěpánovice. In addition, Štěpánovice has a Boží muka wayside shrine listed as a protected cultural monument. The image pillar, made of red sandstone, is an example of small-scale Baroque sacred architecture dating from 1706. The red sandstone, Baroque design and early construction date give this monument a distinctive historical profile. The chapels and the image pillar represent different forms of sacred architecture within the townscape of Štěpánovice.

Štěpánovice also has a Baroque chapel dedicated to Saint Anne. In the centre of the town stands a former mill building dating from 1843. The dates 1706 for the Boží muka and 1843 for the mill building mark two different historical points in time. Thus, the town has sacred buildings of different forms alongside a building that refers to its former use as a mill. Together with the marked hiking trails, the location on the Svratka and the cycling routes, this creates a townscape where nature experiences, activity and small examples of architectural history are directly connected.
