Radostice – Bobrava Nature Park and Historic Village Culture

Radostice combines the natural landscape of the Bobrava Valley with a remarkable church and festival tradition. Those wishing to combine nature trails, regional customs, and historical details on their trip will find several different points of interest here: protected landscape, hiking and cycling trails, a medieval-style church, and revived local festivals.

Bobrava Nature Park and Trails through the Valley

Bobrava Nature Park is a generally protected area covering 30.90 km². It was designated on January 1, 1982, in the Brno-venkov District and extends across wooded terrain between Ořechov, Střelice, Omice, Popůvky, Tetčice, Troubsko, Neslovice, Hlína, Silůvky, Prštice, and Radostice. In the area around Radostice, the meandering Bobrava River, meadows, wetlands, diverse riverside vegetation, several old mills, and a stone bridge are among the landscape features.

Several hiking and cycling trails run through the nature park, including the circular trail through Bobrava Nature Park. At Radostický mlýn, a blue-marked hiking trail runs through the Bobrava Valley from Střelice to Želešice; the Přírodním parkem Bobrava cycling route also runs along this section. After Radostický mlýn, the Přírodním parkem Bobrava educational cycling route reaches the outskirts of Radostice and continues from there upstream along the Bobrava Valley. For orientation on longer routes, the Radostice–Railway Halt tourist signpost is also relevant: from there, a red-marked hiking trail leads via the Kopaniny signpost to Ivančice.

Church of St. Simon and Jude

The Church of St. Simon and Jude gives the history of the village a particularly tangible character. It was founded in 1333 by the brothers Mikuláš and Petr of Radostice; this foundation is recorded on a commemorative plaque set into the church wall. The Gothic chancel dating from 1366 has been preserved. The present Baroque nave was built during the reconstruction of 1722, and the church was restored again in 1850. As a filial church of the Ořechov parish, it is also integrated into the religious life of the surrounding area; services are regularly held there on Wednesdays.

Festivals, Running Event, and Regional Food

The local culture can also be seen in several different traditions. The Babské hody festival in Radostice took place in 2023 and was scheduled to take place again on June 8, 2024. The Mladé hody festival was revived in Radostice in 2023. The newly established Masopust tradition includes a masked procession and traditional Ostatky celebrations, accompanied by live music. Traditional Masopust foods in Radostice include zabijačka and trubičky.

As a sporting highlight, the Radostická nerezová desítka is part of the local events calendar. It is a recurring local running competition organized with the participation of Sokol Radostice. Thus, Radostice brings together nature trails, historical landmarks, contemporary religious life, and local festival culture without limiting the village to just one travel idea.
