Discover Rudka

Rudka lies in a valley on both banks of the Bobrava. The river rises in a forest near the village and gives the landscape a clear geographical connection. Those wishing to combine nature, trails and local history will find several different points of interest in Rudka: an educational trail to the Bobrava Spring, a health trail with various exercise elements, and historical traces dating back to the Middle Ages.

Trails between the municipal office and the Bobrava Spring

The first section of the “Naučná stezka Rudka” educational trail, with five stations from the municipal office to the source of the Bobrava, was completed in June 2015. The second section, with the remaining five stations, was created in 2016. The trail begins at the municipal office and leads to the source of the Bobrava in the forest near Rudka, where the river rises. The ten stations thus connect the village area with the Bobrava’s source region.

The “Stezka pro zdraví” health trail has a different focus. It includes fitness, balance and climbing elements for adults, seniors, children and young people. The various forms of exercise are supplemented by a zip line. The trail also includes benches, litter bins and information boards about the individual elements. The age groups therefore range from children and young people to adults and seniors.

Bell and historical traces

A historic bell tower stands in the centre of Rudka. In addition, a small bell with a Czech inscription and the year 1715 hangs in Rudka on a wooden structure. Both details point to the local history, without requiring any conclusion that it is a modern structure or has a specific present-day use.

Only the remains of the ramparts and walls of the former Hrádek fortress have survived. The fortress fell during the Thirty Years’ War at the latest. Another historical trace is located in the Prachová land parcel: silver was mined there in the Middle Ages, and iron ore was also extracted until the mid-19th century. The documented local history thus extends from medieval mining through the fortress remains to the visible signs in today’s village landscape.

Rudka’s more recent cultural history is also part of the village. In spring 2002, scenes for the television series “Černí baroni” were filmed in a local restaurant. In addition, the birthplace of Josef Juran in Rudka was designated a cultural monument. The designation describes its protected-monument status and does not automatically imply a specific form of visitation.

Local festivals and traditional customs

In mid-August, the local volunteer fire brigade in Rudka organizes fair entertainment events. In addition, the Feast of Saint Procopius, the patron saint of the bell, was celebrated annually with a Mass followed by a communal meal, conversation and singing.
