Milínov between village history and woodland landscape

Milínov combines a remarkably cohesive villagescape with trails through a secluded landscape between forests. At its centre is the elongated village green, lined with gable-fronted farmhouses featuring gateways and Neoclassical gables. Those looking for more than just a place to stay when choosing accommodation, but also a distinctive base for explorations, will find historic village architecture here as well as various destinations in the near and wider surroundings.

The village chapel dating from around 1800 is part of the local history. Its articulated late Baroque façade adds a distinctive architectural accent to the villagescape. On the outskirts of the village also stands the former school with an eclectic façade. As a former part of the village, the building is therefore a historical reference point; from here, a yellow-marked hiking trail leads north to Mariina vyhlídka.

Hiking and cycling to the Lopata castle ruins

The Lopata castle ruins lie approximately two kilometres north of Milínov in the Plzeň-jih District. They are situated on a 420-metre-high hill above the valley of the Kornatický potok, are protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and form part of the nature reserve of the same name. A marked hiking trail leads from Milínov to the ruins. Cycle Route 2039 also leads from the Milínov area to the Lopata castle ruins. This allows different ways of approaching the same historic destination to be considered during a stay, without reducing the village’s history to a single visit.

Another specific route connection lies in the cadastral area of Milínov: the reconstructed Kolejka forest road is 1,431 metres long and connects the tourist signpost below Lopata with Neslívský rybník. East of Milínov lies Pramný Hill, which is protected as a natural monument. Together with the woodland landscape, these destinations give the village a clear focus for walks, hikes and cycling tours.

Cultural landscape around Kozel Castle

Those wishing to explore further historical connections beyond the castle ruins can include the 10-kilometre F. X. Franze educational trail in the wider surroundings of Kozel Castle. The historical development of this cultural landscape is presented at 13 stations with information boards. The educational trail therefore has a different focus from the direct route to the ruins: here, the focus is not just on a single building, but on the development of the landscape around the castle.

A faithful replica of the former wooden structure was erected at Mariina vyhlídka in 2014. The original structure collapsed in a storm in the 1950s. This historical detail also makes the viewpoint a destination with a history of its own.

A visit to Farma Moulisových

Farma Moulisových offers another type of excursion. The grounds are freely accessible, and visitors can come at any time. Four visitor programmes are offered: Farm, Young Animals, Baker and Horses. For families, this provides an addition to a stay that is not based exclusively on hiking trails and cultural monuments. Anyone wishing to borrow a small pony for a walk can do so at Farma Moulisových by prior telephone arrangement. The different visitor programmes and the possibility of a pony walk each require their own conditions.
