Nepomuk combines the veneration of Saint John of Nepomuk with remarkable churches, small exhibition venues and paths through the landscape.

Saint John of Nepomuk and Historic Churches

The Svatojánské Museum displays a collection of works of art and devotional objects from the 18th to the 20th century. The exhibits document the diversity and richness of the cult surrounding Saint John of Nepomuk. The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk offers a direct connection to the local tradition: the Baroque church was built on the site where, according to tradition, the saint's birthplace stood. The building was designed by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer.

When visiting, you should distinguish between the freely accessible nave and a full church tour. The nave is freely accessible during visiting hours. For a full tour, you must arrange an appointment in advance with the priest or the sacristan. Another historic sight is the Church of Saint James the Elder, a fortified Gothic basilica with Romanesque remnants and a Baroque bell tower. It is accessible during services and cultural events or by arrangement through the Svatojánské Museum.

Exhibitions and Music in the Town

Nepomuk also preserves memories of its artists and its technological past. The birthplace of the painter Augustin Němejc is a house from the early 19th century. The artist was born here; today, the building houses a permanent public exhibition of his works. The permanent exhibition of historic technology is located in the former stables of the old Zelenohorská pošta. The old Zelenohorská pošta is the second stop on the Pod Zelenou horou nature trail.

The Atrium Piarum, a concert hall with a grand piano in the heart of Nepomuk, provides a musical highlight.

Nature Trail, Stations of the Cross and Nature Park

The Pod Zelenou horou nature trail begins in the upper part of Nepomuk's square. It is just under 4.5 kilometres long and includes nine stops with information panels. The route is suitable for walkers, cyclists and families with children and can be travelled with a stroller. Its length and the stops make it an independent excursion idea, while the historic technology at the old Zelenohorská pošta offers an additional cultural connection along the route.

A shorter route is the Stations of the Cross leading to Lipový vrch, which is also known locally as Lipák or Šibenice. It is approximately 800 metres long and leads from the local cemetery to the former execution site on Lipový vrch. The Stations of the Cross were established in 2021. A large part of the “Nepomuckou vrchovinou za starými kostely” route leads through the Kákov-Plánický hřeben Nature Park.
