Dobrany: Culture, Nature and Family Experiences

Dobrany combines a riverside landscape, historic architecture and a variety of experiences for a diverse stay. Dobřany lies on the right bank of the Radbuza in a valley surrounded by a green landscape with numerous wooded hills. This brings nature experiences, culture and excursions with children together in one place.

Nature, Walking Trails and Cycle Paths

Martinská stěna Forest Park offers a walking trail more than 2 km long with 14 described stations. The forest park is accessible only on foot; vehicles can be parked in the adjacent car parks. This makes it possible to plan the visit clearly as a walk, without driving along the trail itself.

A separate project has also been documented for cyclists and walkers: it involved the construction of a 1.361 km-long cycle and footpath along Martinská stěna Forest Park. This path is planned at the northwestern edge of the forest park, with a connection to the Dobřánky district. The planned status should be taken into account when planning an individual excursion.

Kotynka: Swimming Biotope Without Chemical Treatment

The natural public swimming biotope Kotynka is located on Ústavní Street in Dobřany, between the Horní Kotynka and Dolní Kotynka ponds. During the summer months, Kotynka is used for recreation and relaxation, leisure activities and sports.

Its biological water purification is particularly noteworthy: the water is kept clean without chemical treatment, using filter lagoons containing water-purifying plants. This gives Kotynka a distinctive aspect of the town that clearly differs from a purely cultural stay.

Churches and Baroque Architecture

The Church of St. Nicholas has a free-standing tower, late Baroque frescoes and a Rococo organ. Several picturesque burgher houses, the town hall and two churches stand on T. G. Masaryk Square in Dobřany. The square therefore brings together various examples of the town’s architectural history.

The Baroque Church of St. Vitus is considered an outstanding work by the Pilsen builder Jakub Auguston the Younger from the first half of the 18th century. Its rooms are used as a gallery, where the permanent exhibition “Dobřany Baroque” can be seen. St. Vitus is open during the opening hours of the Dobřany Information Centre.

Experiences for Families and Regional Specialities

Farmapark Dobřany is designed as a petting zoo. Visitors can feed and stroke the animals in the enclosures; there are also playgrounds and attractions for children. Farmapark complements the walks, swimming biotope and cultural offerings with a programme specifically focused on encounters with animals and children.

The brewery is also part of the local character. At the Dobřany brewery, beer is produced according to traditional Czech technology from malt, hops and water. The beers on offer are served as yeast-cloudy, unfiltered beers.

Dobrany as a Starting Point

Dobřany can be reached from the centre of Plzeň by car, train or bus in about 20 minutes. When choosing accommodation, the combination of the town’s own programme and its connection to Plzeň is therefore particularly relevant.
