Discover Soběkury: Culture, Cycling Routes and Forest Trails
Soběkury combines small cultural and historical discoveries with cycling routes and forest trails that offer different kinds of excursions. Anyone looking for accommodation in this Czech village will find points of interest here for a trip that brings together regional history, activity and peaceful experiences in nature.
Cultural and Historical Traces in Soběkury
One of the special memorial sites is the Reconciliation Stone of Soběkury. The granite block bears an engraved four-armed cross and marks the place where a travelling weaver was robbed and killed. The simple monument therefore not only commemorates a historical event, but also makes the past visible at a specific location.
Another chapter in the village’s history is told by the memorial stone for Jakub Rada. It stands at the eastern edge of the Kvíčová forest near “U rybníčků”, about 3 km west of Soběkury. The stone commemorates Jakub Rada, who was killed by a tree in 1704. Its precise location outside the village connects the memorial with a section of forest and clearly distinguishes this site from the Reconciliation Stone.
The Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross also stands out in the village landscape. The late Baroque, octagonal central building has a domed roof with a lantern. The chapel was built in 1826–1827 at the municipality’s expense. This gives you a cultural focus that does not consist of a long list of major sights, but of a few clearly distinguishable buildings and memorial sites.
Cycling Between Dnešice, Merklín and Staňkov
Soběkury can also be explored via two differently described cycling connections. The cycling route known as “Dětská” runs between Dnešice and Merklín through Soběkury. In addition, cycling route 2185 from Přeštice to Staňkov passes through the village at kilometre 8. A duration of 113 minutes is given for this route. The two details help distinguish between a connection through Soběkury and a longer route with a specified course and duration.
In winter, Soběkury has a downhill run for skiers and sledders. This means Soběkury remains a destination where, depending on the time of year, you can focus on cultural sites, cycling, or a downhill run for skiers and sledders.
Forest Trail to Jahodový vrch
Near Soběkury, a path about one kilometre long leads to Jahodový vrch. The path runs along a forest trail that is suitable for individuals and families with older children, but is not designed for pushchairs. At the destination, the surrounding trees mean there are no wide views across the landscape. This distinction is particularly important when choosing an excursion: Jahodový vrch represents a short path through the forest, not a viewpoint with a wide panorama.
