Discover Pustějov

Pustějov offers several different ways to experience culture, landscapes and active pursuits. You can get to know the village through the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, the Bartošovický luh nature reserve, Kaménka Lake, traditional celebrations or a cycling route along the Oder. This allows cultural discoveries, nature observation and physical activity to be combined without reducing the character of the village to just one attraction.

Church, cemetery and living tradition

The present Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Pustějov dates from 1890. Its history also includes a precisely documented detail: the consecration was scheduled for 1891, but was postponed to 16 August because of bad weather. The parish cemetery complements this historical focus. It contains several original tombstones and crosses; two of them are registered with the heritage protection authority under numbers 2055 and 2056. Local traditions are also part of Pustějov’s character. Every year in July, a traditional Krmáš takes place on the feast day of St. Magdalene. This is a celebration of the church feast featuring a pilgrimage and carnival. The community day, which has become a tradition, provides a different focus: it includes an Olympics for mixed pairs in unusual disciplines and ends with an evening carnival. For travel groups with different interests, these events therefore offer a clear contrast to the quieter cultural and landscape themes of the village.

Nature reserve, meridian and lake

The Bartošovický luh nature reserve also includes the cadastral area of Pustějov. The protected area comprises the naturally meandering course of the Oder, wetlands, floodplain meadows and wetland forests. These individual landscape forms give the area a distinctly different character from a visit to the church and cemetery and make nature an independent factor when choosing the village. Another unusual geographical feature is the 18th eastern meridian. It runs for approximately 3 kilometres through the Pustějov area. Kaménka Lake offers another water-related activity: sport fishing is possible there.

Cycling with a clear weather limitation

The 29-kilometre cycling route No. 6011 follows unpaved paths along the Oder. The documented restriction is important for planning: the section of cycling route 6011 described here is impassable in wet conditions. Anyone planning to make cycling a fixed part of their stay should take this dependence on conditions into account when choosing the right period, without assuming that the route is generally passable.

Location between Nový Jičín and Bílovec

Pustějov is located on the main road between Nový Jičín and Bílovec. Nový Jičín is 15 kilometres away, and Bílovec is 8 kilometres away. These distances place Pustějov between the two towns and complement the local themes with clear geographical orientation.
