Bordovice

Bordovice combines a distinctive valley location with hiking trails, protected landscapes and a history dating back to the Middle Ages. The village stretches for approximately 2 km along the banks of the Lichnovský potok. High slopes enclose the valley: Na Peklech reaches 608 m in the northwest, while Velký Javorník reaches 918 m in the southeast. Bordovice therefore offers a concrete starting point for anyone wishing to combine nature experiences and historical discoveries in a single trip.

Landscape between the stream, slopes and protected areas

Part of Bordovice lies within the CHKO Beskydy Protected Landscape Area, while another part is located in the Podbeskydská pahorkatina Nature Park. The Velký Kámen natural monument is also located nearby, covering an area of 3.649 ha. It protects an extensive exposure of sandstone layers as well as a naturally shaped woodland with high biodiversity. These different landscape forms give the surroundings their own character: the valley of the Lichnovský potok contrasts with the wooded slopes and the higher viewpoints. The Velký Javorník observation tower is located nearby. The 25.915 m high wooden tower stands on the summit of the same name, at an elevation of 918 m, and has two viewing platforms. From there, the view extends across the Frenštátská brázda, the front range of the Beskids as far as Lysá hora, Ondřejník, Poodří, Štramberk and the Veřovické vrchy. Hiking with two clear route options

The green-marked KČT hiking trail 4840 runs along the southern boundary of Bordovice. It leads from Frenštát pod Radhoštěm to Velký Javorník and then via Malý Javorník to Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. The route thus connects several points in the Beskid region, without Bordovice having to be viewed merely as an individual excursion destination. Another described hiking connection leads from Velký Javorník to the Bordovice bus stop. It initially follows a green-marked route to Nad Horečkami over 1.7 km. A yellow-marked route then continues to the Bordovice bus stop; the connection measures 4.3 km in total. The “Bordovice, rozc.” stop has a bus bay and a passenger shelter in at least one direction of travel. When choosing your accommodation, it is therefore particularly relevant whether you wish to use Bordovice as the starting or ending point of such a hiking connection.

Timber building, chapel and the history of the village

Bordovice is home to a single registered immovable cultural monument: the Roubený dům. The detached, single-storey timber building was constructed using log construction and has a gabled roof, vertically boarded gables, a ventilation opening and underboarding. The building dates from the first half of the 19th century and was the birthplace of the partisan Josef Drozd. The history of the village also reaches far back. Bordovice was first mentioned in 1584 and remained closely connected with the Hukvaldy estate. The origin of the village is traditionally placed in the 13th century; it is generally assumed that the municipality was founded on land belonging to the Hukvaldy estate after areas of forest had been cleared. Another historical reference leads to the year 1568: at that time, an iron hammer mill in Bordovice was purchased by the nobleman Kašpar Boček; it stood at the site of Mr. Bumbala’s forge. The village’s masonry chapel was completed in 1877, consecrated in 1894 and held services for the first time in 1925. Together with the Roubený dům, it makes the history of the village visible through specific buildings and dates.
