Frühbuß: Nature, Panoramic Views and Tin Mining

Frühbuß combines a distinctive mountain landscape with an unusually rich history of tin mining. If you would like to combine nature and cultural history during your stay, you will find protected habitats, expansive views and numerous traces of earlier mining activity here.

Protected Landscape and Panoramic Views

The Přebuzské vřesoviště protected area preserves near-natural habitats that emerged after peat extraction and provide refuge for rare and endangered plants and animals. Hartelsberg (Čertova hora) is a 987 m-high, cone-shaped landmark of the Přebuz landscape. From there, views extend across Krušné hory, Smrčiny, Český les, Slavkovský les, Tepelská vrchovina and Doupovské hory. The Skalka rock outcrop, located directly on the path to Hartelsberg, displays characteristic textures of tin-bearing granites.

Following in the Footsteps of Mining

The Hornická poznávací trasa Přebuz is a 5.2 km-long route with 13 stations. The Přebuzský vodní příkop (Erbgraben) is considered Přebuz's oldest mining monument and was built by the Šlik family in the mid-16th century. Panský důl (Herrenzeche) offers views of rugged open-pit workings, collapsed adits, depressions, disappearing streams and springs left behind by tin mining from the 16th to the 19th century.

The headframe of Hlavní jáma (Hauptschacht) is a technical monument. Beneath the concreted shaft opening lies a flooded labyrinth of mine workings reaching a depth of 190 m. Alžbětinská dědičná štola (St. Elisabeth Heritage Adit) was an important drainage adit from the 16th to the 19th century. Jitřní štola (Gut-Morgen-Stollen) represents the beginnings of mining in Přebuz in the 16th century and was converted into an explosives store in the 20th century. Buchar (Bucherich), on the uphill section of road leading to the church, was a facility for crushing tin ore and supplied a nearby ore-processing plant and smelter. The processing plant for tin and arsenic ores operated from 1933 to 1945; the settling pond (Odkaliště hlušiny) contains sandy residues produced during ore washing.

Tin mining in Přebuz was carried out from 1909 to 1914 under the name Čerstvé štěstí (Frischglück) and from 1931 to 1958 as Ritterův důl (Ritterschacht). It reached a depth of 120 m and left behind rows of subsidence hollows. The Church of St. Bartholomew is also part of the local history: the year 1781 is associated with it; according to the town's history, it was completed in 1787.
