Buildings with Special Stories

The Evangelical Church of the Redeemer was completed and consecrated on 8 December 1905 according to plans by the Stuttgart architects Eisenlohr and Weigle. The building is considered an unusually stylistically pure example of Neo-Romanesque architecture. Since 1946, the church has been used by the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren. This makes it not only a building from the early 20th century, but also a place with a clearly documented history of use.

Another prominent testimony to the past is the Kynšperská branka. The two-storey town gate has had its present appearance since the 16th century. The adjoining half-timbered and log-built extension once served as a Jewish prayer room. On Zámecký vrch, archaeological research places the beginnings of the presumably rather small Kynšperský hrad castle in the 13th century. The abandoned castle later became a ruin; its masonry was gradually dismantled for construction purposes. Panský dům stands at the upper end of 5. května Square, the marketplace. The two-storey Baroque building was constructed in 1586 as a Renaissance town hall. This building makes it possible to trace different historical construction phases within a single urban space.

The brewing tradition of Kynšperský pivovar dates back to 1595. At that time, Emperor Rudolf II granted the town of Kynšperk nad Ohří an independent brewing right.
