Janessen combines cycling experiences with unusual evidence of the region’s history. For planning your trip, you can choose between two 11 km cycling routes, a historic viaduct, the Neoclassical Chapel of St. Anne and the reclaimed Velká loketská výsypka. This allows you to tailor your stay according to your interests, combining active stages, technical structures, local history and a landscape shaped by open-cast lignite mining.

Cycling with different route characteristics

The 11 km cycling route 2227 K.Vary–Jenišov–Chodov runs through Jenišov via Jetelová and Pod Rybníkem. Its paved paths consist of asphalt and gravel surfaces. A second 11 km connection, cycling route 2228 Stará Role–Jenišov–Loket, leads through Jenišov via Pod Rybníkem and Jetelová. It runs mostly away from vehicle traffic; only between Loučky and Loket is traffic heavier.

If you are travelling with children or in a mixed group, the route length, surface and traffic conditions can be factored into your daily planning without having to assume a particular level of difficulty or journey time. In addition, 14 km of cycle paths are marked out on the Velká loketská výsypka, and seven rest areas have been established. This provides another specific starting point for a cycling tour with planned breaks.

A reclaimed landscape with its own history

The Velká loketská výsypka is an external spoil heap from the Družba open-cast lignite mine. The reclaimed area extends between Nové Sedlo, Mírová, Jenišov and Hory. This landscape adds a destination to the cycling routes where not only physical activity, but also the origins and transformation of the terrain play a role. Those who enjoy combining different types of scenery during their holiday can note this area as a separate excursion destination.

Viaduct and Chapel of St. Anne

One of the prominent structures near Jenišov is a stone viaduct. Its arch crosses the Chodovský potok immediately next to the mill race of a former mill. The viaduct has served continuously since the construction of the Buštěhrad Railway in 1870, without major repairs. It is also the largest structure in the cadastral area of the municipality of Jenišov. These details also make the site interesting for families who enjoy discovering tangible traces of history along the way rather than simply covering a route.

In the centre of Jenišov, the Neoclassical Chapel of St. Anne stands on the village square. It was built in 1849 to a design by the bricklayer Franz Gelinka, on the site of an earlier wooden belfry, and was completely reconstructed from 1991 to 1993. The areas outside the chapel are accessible. For your planning, this means that you can include the village centre as a cultural stop without having to assume that an interior visit or specific opening hours will be possible.

Which accommodation suits your stay

When looking for accommodation in Janessen, you can first decide whether cycling, the landscape or local history should be the main focus. For several days of cycling, the two 11 km routes and the 14 km of marked paths on the Velká loketská výsypka are the obvious themes. If you prefer shorter cultural discoveries, the viaduct and the Chapel of St. Anne take centre stage.
