Kohlhau: Chapel, Hiking Trails and Landscape

The historical name “Kohlhau” refers to a clearing created by charcoal burners. Kolová was first mentioned in 1622. Today, historical traces, marked trails and the protected landscape of the Slavkov Forest shape the area. Most of Kolová’s administrative territory lies within the Slavkov Forest Protected Landscape Area. This makes the surrounding area suitable for a trip that combines culture and nature.

Kolová Chapel and History

A particular cultural landmark is the Kolová Chapel. It was built in 1873 by a local resident named Neuerer. In 1930, it was rebuilt, repaired and extended. During this work, the altar was also restored with a painting of Saint Anne. From 1930 onwards, Masses were celebrated and pilgrimages held in the Kolová Chapel on the feast day of Saint Anne.

The building’s history also extends into the more recent past: in 1996, the Kolová Chapel was repaired by the municipality, and in October 2005 it was reconsecrated. The grounds of the Chapel of Saint Anne are open to visitors. Between the chapel and the school is a landscaped park with a wooden pavilion and several benches. This allows a cultural visit to be combined with time spent in the village area, without requiring any additional attractions.

Protected Landscape and Marked Trails

Several clearly marked routes are available for active days. A blue-marked long-distance hiking trail leads from Vítkův vrch through Kolová and onwards towards Pila. A red-marked long-distance hiking trail begins in Březová, runs through the valley of the Cínový potok to Kolová, and then also continues towards Pila. The two hiking trails therefore already differ in their documented starting points and landscape areas.

Cyclists can also find designated routes in the surrounding area. The marked cycle route 2288 leads from Gejzír Park through the forests below Vítkův vrch, through Kolová and onwards towards Pila. National cycle route 39 runs via Kolovský rybník through Kolová and also continues to Pila. Those who want to weigh up forest sections, a route through the pond area or a starting point at a distinctive landmark when planning their trip can distinguish between these routes based on their described courses.

Golf and Community Life

Another excursion theme is Golf Club Háje. Its golf course is located in the state-protected Slavkov Forest. The stated address is: Háje 89, Kolová, 360 01 Karlovy Vary. The golf course complements the historical and landscape themes with an independent way to explore the surrounding area.

Kolová’s community programme also includes a festival marking the farewell to summer and a school Advent concert with a fair. These two events represent different times of the year and give the village a community setting in addition to its chapel, trails and landscape.
