Accommodation in Klein-Werscheditz
Renaissance history, a late Baroque chapel, and a war memorial with two layers of remembrance characterize Klein-Werscheditz (Verušičky). A Renaissance granary broadens the view of the 16th century; cycle route 2249 runs through the northern part of the municipality of Verušičky. This connects the town’s history with a specific point of reference for cyclists.
Klein-Werscheditz Between the Renaissance and Baroque
The château in Verušičky grew out of a Renaissance fortress built by Volf ze Štampachu in the mid-16th century. The château therefore originated as a fortified structure. A second building from the same period is the Renaissance granary, also built by Volf ze Štampachu in the mid-16th century. The château and granary link the same patron and the same era with two different types of building. The two Renaissance buildings also differ in their purpose: a fortress is a fortified structure, while a granary is used for storage. Comparing them helps explain two different building functions from the same era, rather than treating the Renaissance as a single, uniform architectural style.
The granary was completely reconstructed between 2016 and 2020. This reconstruction represents a much later period than its construction in the 16th century. Anyone interested in architectural history can distinguish the Renaissance-era construction of the granary from its complete reconstruction in the 21st century.
Chapel and Commemoration
The late Baroque Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity stands on an inconspicuous hill southeast of Verušičky. It was built in 1740 and solemnly consecrated on October 19 of the same year. This places its construction in the mid-18th century and dates its consecration to an exact calendar day. The comprehensive reconstruction carried out between 2015 and 2022 included converting it into an exhibition and concert hall. If you would like to visit for an exhibition or concert, check the current program and access arrangements in advance.
The war memorial to the victims of the First World War was erected in 1920. In the early 21st century, it was restored and supplemented with an inscription plaque commemorating the victims of the Second World War. The plaque adds a second layer of remembrance to the memorial’s original purpose. The memorial was designed by master stonemason V. Hacker from Doupov; he probably also carried out the design.
Cycling and Choosing Accommodation
Cycle route 2249 runs through the northern part of the municipality of Verušičky. It is mostly paved; the section between Lučiny and Čínov is gravel. This means the route includes a specific change in surface rather than a consistent surface throughout. As surface conditions can change, it is advisable to check them before setting out.
