Psáry: Cultural History, Nature and Trails along the Záhořanský Stream

Psáry combines a landscape on the northwestern edge of the Benešovská pahorkatina with a local history dating back to the Middle Ages. The Záhořanský Stream rises in the northern part of Psáry. A hiking trail runs along the stream, while in the broader landscape context, the names Hornopožárské lesy and Přírodní Park Střed Čech each refer to parts of the landscape. The first written record of Psáry dates from 1088. A particularly tangible historical reference is the Church of Saint Wenceslas in Psáry, a cultural monument dating from the 12th century. The enclosed complex is located on the road between Psáry and Jesenice.

The history of Psáry also includes two fortresses. The first fortress is associated with the estate of the Charles College. The second fortress is first mentioned in a purchase contract from 1573. It fell into disrepair during the Thirty Years’ War and was not rebuilt afterward. The local primary school also dates back to an early period: its history reaches back to 1693. Together with the cultural monument and the fortresses, this creates a historical focus that touches on various periods in the history of the village.

Another way to experience regional culture is the Svatováclavské posvícení in Dolní Jirčany. The traditional festival is held with stalls, fair food, workshops and entertainment for children.
