Řevnice: Film Culture, Forest Trails, and Historical Traces

Řevnice combines historic townscape, an archaeological fortified site, forest trails, the Berounka, and a regular film program. This opens up several ways for you to shape your stay according to your interests: cultural history, hiking, summer water sports, or cinema can each take center stage. Řevnice lies on the Prague–Beroun railway line. The railway is therefore just as much a part of the town’s character as the square, the paths, and the river.

History in the Square and on the Rocky Spur

The funnel-shaped square in Řevnice is considered to be the work of a high medieval settlement, probably founded before 1292. Northeast of the square, behind it, stand the Church of St. Mauritius and the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Hradiště Na Pišťáku in Řevnice is designated as an important archaeological site. The site lies on a steep rocky spur, also called Malá Babka. Its fortifications consist of two to three arched ramparts with ditches dug in front of them. This gives the town’s history two closely connected spaces: the square with the church and the rocky spur with its ramparts. Moving between the town center and the elevation connects the central history of the town with the shape of the terrain.

Lesní divadlo can be reached via a forest hiking trail. The 11-kilometer circular route of the Fabiánova educational trail begins and ends at náměstí Krále Jiřího z Poděbrad in Řevnice. A hiking route to Na Babku also leads from Řevnice. For your planning, this provides a loop with a clearly defined distance, a forest destination, and a route to Na Babku alongside one another. On the Fabiánova educational trail, the start and finish are fixed at náměstí Krále Jiřího z Poděbrad; the trail thus forms a closed loop with a clearly defined spatial framework. If you prefer such a circular route, its length can be planned directly. The forest hiking trail to Lesní divadlo, by contrast, leads to a specific destination in the forest, while Na Babku is an independent hiking destination accessible from Řevnice.

The Berounka, Film, and Local Events

In Řevnice, the Berounka is used in summer for water sports such as swimming and canoeing. In summer, these activities complement the forest trails with a different focus. Since 2007, BIO Řevnice has offered a regular, extensive film program. The town thus combines natural and cultural themes that can be given different emphasis when planning a stay.

The local events calendar also includes the Pivní festival Řevnice. It has been held at least eight times; its ninth edition was announced for May 23, 2026, in the town square. One edition was announced to feature 13 breweries, selected refreshments, and music. The planned edition thus combines the beer selection with selected refreshments and music, complementing Řevnice’s cultural, scenic, and sporting highlights with its own connection to the square and the festival.
