Slapy: Reservoir, Church and Cultural Monument

Slapy is a destination for a trip that brings together water, culture and excursions in the wider surrounding area. Slapy Reservoir offers swimming opportunities, beaches, viewpoints and boat trips. Reservoir, Boat and Cycling Trail

Slapy Reservoir is a recreational area where swimming opportunities, beaches, viewpoints and boat trips enable a range of activities. A daily boat service departs from the Slapská přehrada station, stops at nine additional stations and ends in Nová Živohošť. The journey takes an average of one hour. The nine additional stations make the connection a trip with several possible intermediate destinations; at the same time, the average journey time of one hour provides a manageable timeframe.

Cycling is also one of the documented options in Slapy. Trail “Slapák” is located in Trailpark Slapy; it is a trail of medium difficulty that was introduced in 2022. The medium difficulty rating identifies the trail as a sporting option alongside spending time by the water and visiting cultural destinations. Vesely, a mountain, is located in the vicinity of Slapy. The nearby area also includes Chlum [Štěchovice u Prahy] and Chlumka [Štěchovice-Masečín], both hills.

Church and Cultural Monument

The Church of St. Peter and Paul in Slapy was rebuilt and consecrated in 1693 and completely restored in 1912. Its longitudinally oriented octagonal nave and an octagonal mortuary chapel arranged on the axis of the church define its distinctive architectural form. The two octagonal structures give the church a clearly recognizable geometric structure. The church can be visited 30 minutes before and after a Mass; guided tours are available by telephone appointment. The visiting window around a Mass provides a clearly defined timeframe for the visit.

Zámek Slapy is now a protected cultural monument. The site brings together historical layers from the medieval period through the 20th century and is a historic building complex on the southern edge of the municipality of Slapy. The complex includes a Neo-Baroque main building from the 1930s and Baroque outbuildings from the 18th century. Thus, different periods of construction come together in one complex at this cultural site.

As part of the Letovisko Slapy project, roads, a water and electricity supply, a forest swimming pool and a restaurant were established. Several model cottages and villas were already built in 1935. This historical development complements today's focus on the reservoir, nature and culture.
