Medonosy in the Liběchovka Valley

Medonosy lies in a deep valley of the Liběchovka, which cuts between the hills of the Ralská pahorkatina uplands. The village is located in the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area. This location alone gives Medonosy a distinct landscape character: the valley, hills and protected nature define the local surroundings. Nature Between Gorges and Uplands

More than one hundred plant species in the surroundings of Medonosy are endangered and require protection. Mountain and submontane plants, predominantly moisture-loving species, grow in the shady gorges. On the sunny uplands, by contrast, plants that thrive in dry and warm conditions flourish. For nature observation, this contrast means that moist and dry habitats can be clearly distinguished. Rare insect, bird and aquatic animal species also occur in the Medonosy ecosystem. For your planning, this contrast is particularly striking: you will find not just a uniform landscape here, but clearly distinguishable natural habitats.

Historic Villagescape and Traditional Houses

The distinctive villagescape includes fifty cottages that have preserved their original appearance and period-typical architectural layout almost unchanged. In addition, 31 buildings in Medonosy are registered nationwide as protected architectural monuments. The houses are predominantly two-storey log or half-timbered buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. One rural house features a particularly complex structural design: the predominantly two-storey log building has a two-part floor plan, an asymmetrical gabled roof, a recessed veranda, a supporting structure on the ground floor and a short utility wing with a half-timbered chamber on the upper floor. Its core dates from the late 18th century. Architecturally, the range extends from preserved room layouts to structural elements such as the veranda, supporting structure and half-timbered chamber.

Church, Mill and Distinctive Details

The Baroque Church of St James dates from 1712 and stands on Gothic foundations. Since 1966, it has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. At the entrance to Medonosy from the direction of Mělník stands a sandstone statue of Saint Ludmila from the mid-19th century. Knížecí studánka is topped by a Neoclassical canopy and is a plentiful spring with good-quality drinking water. The water mill in Medonosy, house no. 1, contains mill equipment dated 1788. The church, statue, spring and mill create different accents in the villagescape, ranging from sacred architecture and the village entrance to water and milling technology. The villagescape is complemented by a reconstructed and well-maintained wayside niche chapel.

Bunkers and Hiking Trail

In section P3 – Medonosy, most of the bunkers are located directly on or in the immediate vicinity of a green-marked hiking trail. Other places: Chorušice, Chlumín, Hostín, Dolní Zimoř, Dobřeň, Řepín, Mšeno and Lužec Nad Vltavou.
