Dobřeň – Village Heritage Reserve and Sandstone Landscape

Dobřeň combines village architecture with a varied landscape in Kokořínsko. The village is a village heritage reserve with an ensemble of folk architecture and is one of the villages in the Kokořínsko region designated as village heritage reserves. For travelers who want to combine nature and cultural discoveries, Dobřeň thus offers a clearly recognizable character of its own.

Village Chapel and Folk Architecture

The village chapel stands in the eastern part of Dobřeň, approximately in the middle of a park-like village green. It is a square, plastered masonry chapel with a round-arched entrance and round-arched windows. Its onion dome and wooden bell turret define its architectural form. The chapel dates from the first third of the 19th century and complements the listed village landscape with a specific architectural detail.

Dobřeň's cultural character also includes a crucifixion relief. This folk-art work from the 18th century depicts Christ on the cross, as well as the Virgin Mary, Saint John, and Mary Magdalene. Together with the village chapel and the ensemble of folk architecture, it describes the cultural and historical character of the village without reducing Dobřeň to individual buildings.

Sandstone Valleys and Wetlands in Kokořínský důl

The Kokořínský důl Nature Reserve also includes the cadastral territory of Dobřeň. The area designated for Dobřeň comprises geomorphologically varied sandstone terrain with canyon-like valleys, rock terraces, and smaller rock towns. The landscape also includes wetlands of exceptional importance from a natural-history perspective: springs, bodies of water, the Pšovka and its tributaries, reed and sedge marshes, wet meadows, as well as wet shrublands and alder-ash floodplain forests.

The landforms do not represent uniform terrain: canyon-like valleys, rock terraces, and smaller rock towns describe different manifestations of the sandstone. Together with springs, bodies of water, the Pšovka and its tributaries, as well as the marshes and floodplain forest areas, they form an area with a variety of natural features. Hiking and Cycling Around Jestřebice

Cycle Route 0012 passes through Dobřeň. The administrative area includes Jestřebice, which is designated as a village heritage zone. In Jestřebice, the Jestřebické Pokličky rock formations lie directly along a green-marked hiking trail and Cycle Route 0012. The sandstone formations were created by varying degrees of weathering. They are considered a particularly typical manifestation of a remarkable phenomenon preserved in this form only in the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area. Anyone wishing to combine natural features and village culture while cycling or hiking will find various points of connection here for planning their day.

Another natural feature is located directly in Dobřeň: a small-leaved linden tree designated as a natural monument stands here. Its trunk circumference is 478 cm and its height is 16 m; it is one of the largest specimens in Kokořínsko. Together with the sandstone formations and wetlands, it demonstrates the diversity of the area's natural-history features.
