Discover Lužec nad Vltavou

Lužec nad Vltavou combines a distinctive cultural heritage with concrete opportunities for excursions along the river and by bicycle. At the center is the Church of St. Giles: the protected complex includes the church, the mortuary chapel, and the designated plots of land. There is also a revitalized area around the pond and important cycling connections. This allows visitors to discover the town both through its architectural history and through its routes and river crossings.

Church of St. Giles and the Lužecké varhany

The Church of St. Giles is a single-nave Baroque building. The presbytery contains a Rococo fresco depicting an illusionistic dome. The protected complex also includes the mortuary chapel, whose architecture clearly differs from that of the church: it is a round central building with three curved chapel projections. Its domed roof, covered with roof tiles, is complemented by a hexagonal brick bell tower.

The Lužecké varhany are part of Lužec’s distinctive acoustic and architectural character. The organ was built in 1783 by Prague organ builder Anton Reiss. It has two manuals and twelve stops and has been preserved in almost its original condition. To this day, it has retained its original tonal character. For travelers interested in culture, this part of the town therefore offers several different points of interest: sacred architecture, a Rococo fresco, and a historic instrument can be combined conceptually into a cultural program of their own, without the individual features blending into one another.

Park, River, and Cycling Routes

Na Pastvách Forest Park by the pond was revitalized in 2022. This created a pleasant environment for residents and visitors. The park complements the historical themes with a quieter area of the town by the water, thereby providing a distinct feature among the available facts about the town.

For cycle tourists, the pedestrian and cycling bridge near Bukol, opened in 2021, is particularly relevant. It improves access to the opposite riverbank; previously, there was only a ferry connection there. EuroVelo 7, a long-distance cycling route running from Sweden to Sicily in a north-south direction, crosses the bridge. EuroVelo 7 and the Lužec–Zelčín cycling route also pass through Lužec nad Vltavou. Those traveling on EuroVelo 7 cross the Vltava here at the same time and continue their journey in a north-south direction. The long-distance route extends across the wider region, while the Lužec–Zelčín cycling route connects Lužec and Zelčín.

Orientation by the Water

Another distinctive feature by the water in Lužec is the Lužec railway bridge. When raised, it serves a different purpose for shipping than the pedestrian and cycling bridge: the latter improves access to the opposite bank on foot and by bicycle, while the former provides a clearance height of 7.0 meters.
