Jablůnka – History, Landscape and Educational Trail

Jablůnka combines a landscape between river deposits and hills with a vivid local history. This creates a destination where nature, regional memory and specific routes through the town come together. The municipality lies partly on the river deposits of the Vsetínská Bečva and partly on hills leading to the western foothills of the Vsetínské vrchy. The educational trail leads through the landscape around Jablůnka and connects the history of the municipality with the landscape and the memories of local residents. There are ten stops in total. They provide information about the history of Jablůnka, the everyday lives and memories of its inhabitants. The focus is therefore not only on the route itself, but also on how the town is described by its population.

For planning your day, the educational trail offers two moderately difficult options: a green circular route of approximately 6 km and a yellow circular route of approximately 10 km. You can therefore choose between two circular routes of different lengths without leaving behind the thematic connection between the landscape and local history. Those who prefer a shorter or a more extensive route will find clear guidance in these two distances.

Traces of history in the town

A particularly tangible monument is the Jablůnka cross dating from 1771. It stands on the road between Jablůnka and Bystřička, on the U Kříže hill, and has been protected as a cultural monument since 1958. Its Baroque pedestal is made of sandstone. The front bears the relief coat of arms of the Illesházy family, while the year 1771 is shown on the back. The combination of its location, design and date makes the cross a precisely identifiable testimony to the town’s history.

The first written mention of Jablůnka dates from 24 June 1505. It was made in connection with the registration of a property purchase in the Moravian land registers. The Evangelical church is also part of this historical narrative: its foundation stone was laid in 1877, it burned down in 1903 and was subsequently restored. Next to the Evangelical church stands a monument to the victims of the First and Second World Wars. It was reconstructed in 1995 and fitted with a memorial capsule.

The local tradition also includes the competition “O nejlepší jablůnecků jabkovicu a o nejlepší jabkovů buchtu”. In 2026, it reached its 21st edition. The focus is on Jablůnka’s apple brandy and the best apple cake. It adds a local connection to food and customs to the cultural and historical impressions.

Road and rail in Jablůnka

Jablůnka lies on road I/57 and on the railway line from Valašské Meziříčí to Vsetín. Jablůnka railway station is also located on line 280, on the route (Olomouc–) Přerov–Hranice na Moravě–Střelná (–Púchov).

The station building itself also has a documented history. It was originally built in 1885 on a single-track railway line and was converted to two tracks in 1937 when the line was expanded. Jablůnka railway station is integrated into a regional transport system. Important practical information for getting around locally: there is no ticket office at the station; tickets are sold on the train.
