Študlov: Hiking, Nature and Local Traditions

Študlov lies at an average elevation of 550 m in the northernmost foothills of the White Carpathians. The village combines marked trails through the landscape with a nature monument, winter sports at Požár and customs that remain part of the local annual cycle to this day. If you would like to combine experiences in nature with cultural discoveries during your stay, Študlov offers several clearly distinct points of interest for doing so.

Between Požár, Končitá and the White Carpathians

The prominent heights around the village include Požár and Končitá. Požár reaches 791 m; a trail junction is located at its summit. At 817 m, Končitá is the highest mountain in Študlov. Small deposits of the rare mineral amber can also be found in the upper part of the village – an unusual detail of the local landscape that characterizes the village beyond its trails and heights.

For hiking, a marked route leads from Valašské Příkazy eastwards through Študlov to the summit of Požár. The surrounding area offers opportunities for hiking all year round. Those who would like to explore the region on two wheels can also include the Hornolidečská magistrála in their route planning: the mountain-bike trail runs from Horní Lideč via Valašské Příkazy and Študlov to Střelná. This makes it possible to plan hiking and cycling trips using different starting points and routes, without reducing the landscape to just one activity.

There is also a specific connection to winter sports: Študlov has downhill ski slopes on the slope of Požár. When choosing accommodation, the main question therefore remains whether you want to focus your stay on trails, mountain landscapes or winter sports.

Hrádek and the Distinctive Features of the Landscape

The Hrádek nature monument comprises an orchard with an orchid meadow and a former juniper pasture on a sunny slope. Springs occasionally emerge there. Hrádek was first designated on 22 February 1999. Together with the elevation and the trails, it creates a landscape in which open spaces, slopes and opportunities for observing nature exist side by side.

Church, Chapel and Festivals Throughout the Year

Študlov also has cultural points of interest that differ from its experiences in nature. The Church of St Matthew was built from 1992 to 1994. The village is also home to a hundred-year-old chapel. The local culture includes the Študlovjanka brass band, founded in 1928.

At the end of summer, Študlov traditionally holds the Dožínky harvest festival. Cultural traditions also include a Fašank procession and a lively Masopust festival. These dates and customs give a stay a different focus from a hike to Požár or a cycling trip along the Hornolidečská magistrála.
