Discover Lačnov

Lačnov combines impressive sandstone formations, protected meadows and paths through the history of the Wallachian landscape. Here, you can combine a hike to the Lačnovské skály with visits to the Vařákovy paseky Museum, a historic farmstead and the Church of Our Lady, Queen of Heaven and Earth. This makes the village well suited to a trip where nature experiences and regional history stand closely side by side.

Rocks, meadows and protected nature

The Lačnovské skály are a group of sandstone rock formations in the summit area of Mount Vrátnice and on its southern slopes towards Lačnov. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Lačnov to the rocks. Access is exclusively on foot; the route is not suitable for prams. This clear restriction is particularly important when planning outings with children of different ages.

Another natural area is the Sucháčkovy paseky Nature Monument, located about 1 kilometre southeast of Lačnov on the right valley slope of the Lačnovský potok. It contains a flower-rich meadow with numerous specimens of the specially protected white-flowered crocus. The Lačnov Nature Monument lies in the Vizovická vrchovina highlands on the western edge of Lačnov’s built-up area, behind the kindergarten. It was first designated on 21 September 1948.

Educational trails with different focuses

For a longer outing, the 16-kilometre Vařákovy paseky Educational Trail is a good choice. It has 15 information stations, begins at Horní Lideč railway station and then leads via the Lačnovské rybníky ponds to Lačnov. The route thus connects several sections of the landscape with information about local history.

A separate 3.5-kilometre path leads from the Vařákovy paseky Museum to the original settlement site. There is also a forest playground along the way. The route complements a museum visit with a walk to the place where the former Vařákovy paseky settlement stood.

Remembering Vařákovy paseky

The permanent exhibition at the Vařákovy paseky Museum in Lačnov commemorates the tragic destruction of the settlement by fire at the end of the Second World War. The museum displays reconstructions of original Wallachian buildings, including a dwelling hut, a barn and farm buildings. Visitors can also see a dwelling hut, a farm building, a stable, a drying house and a cellar.

Several foundation stones have survived from the former settlement. The site can be reached after about 600 metres from the recycling centre in the lower part of the grounds of the former agricultural enterprise. The visit can therefore be planned as an independent historical programme item or as an addition to the walk from the museum.

Farmstead and church

The architectural history of Lačnov includes the timber-framed farmstead No. 13. One of the farmstead’s beams is dated 1811. It consists of a dwelling house, a stable with a hayloft, a barn and a chamber. The farmstead is a historic monument arranged around a square courtyard.

The Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady, Queen of Heaven and Earth in Lačnov dates from 1969 to 1971. It is a filial church in the Deanery of Valašské Klobouky. Another facet of the village is provided by the Lačnovské rybníky ponds and their fishing centre, which attracts anglers from the wider surrounding area.
