Traplice – Culture and Wine in the Jankovický potok Valley

Traplice combines the landscape of the Chřiby Mountains with regional wine culture and a remarkable wealth of historic sights. Traplice lies in the flat valley of the Jankovický potok stream. Its location combines mountain scenery, a valley, and the village streetscape. Historic Traces in Traplice

The history of the village goes back a long way: Traplice is first mentioned in 1228 in a deed of donation to Velehrad Monastery. Different periods meet in Traplice: the first mention dates from 1228, the bell tower from the second half of the 18th century, and the cross from 1820. At the center stands a two-storey stone bell tower with a pyramidal roof dating from the second half of the 18th century. The bell tower stands in the center, while the cross is located near the chapel. A five-metre-high stone cross dating from 1820 also stands near the chapel. It rests on a stepped base with volute-shaped side wings, making it a particularly distinctive feature of the village streetscape.

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary was consecrated on 5 September 2009 by the Archbishop of Olomouc, Mons. Jan Graubner. The 2009 consecration thus adds a distinctly more recent historical note. Behind house no. 20 there is a clay-built structure with a room on the upper floor, a living room with a tiled stove, a wooden beam ceiling, a black kitchen, and a passage barn. A black kitchen is a historic kitchen room in which an open fire was used for cooking and smoke was produced without a modern flue.

Wine, Customs, and Leisure

The traditional Traplice wine exhibition is part of the local wine culture. Visitors can taste around 350 wines from the Uherské Hradiště region there. The exhibition focuses on the regional origin of the wines and thus extends beyond Traplice to Uherské Hradiště. In addition, the summer wine tasting Letní koštování vína is scheduled for 13 June. Anyone wishing to get to know Traplice through an event can also experience the traditional Slovácké Hody s právem as part of the local customs. The Hody s právem represent a Slovácko tradition alongside events explicitly dedicated to wine. A traditional Fašank was scheduled to take place in Traplice on 21 February 2026; this date is already in the past and should therefore be regarded as a past event date.

There is also a specific leisure opportunity away from culture and wine: the bowling alley in Traplice has two fully automatic lanes. For active days, a completed shared cycle and pedestrian path runs between Traplice and Sušice.
