Rudice – Village History and the Bílé Karpaty Landscape
Rudice combines a local history documented over many centuries with a village setting and a landscape of hills, forests and protected natural areas. This creates a destination where cultural and historical discoveries come together with the characteristic landscape of the Bílé Karpaty during a single stay. Rudice also offers various thematic points of interest for families who want to fill their holiday with specific stories and small discoveries.
From the Hallstatt period to the village anniversary
The first written mention of Rudice dates from 1350. However, the history of the village goes further back: settlement in the Rudice area has already been documented for the Hallstatt period. This long span of time is visible at various memorial sites. A monument to those who fell in the First World War stands in the village square. Another memorial plaque commemorates the victims of the Second World War, while a memorial plaque with a relief is dedicated to the fallen members of the CARBON parachute group. A prominent religious building is the church dedicated to Saint Wenceslas. It was built in 1789 in the Baroque style. Its furnishings include a bell cast in 1735 in the workshop of bell founder Jan Antonín Ber, and an organ dating from 1912. The church therefore makes it possible to trace not only its period of construction but also the development of individual furnishings. A 15th-century chapel, later rebuilt, stands on the road to Nezdenice. Protected lime trees grow beside it. This creates another combination of architectural history and a naturally developed landscape feature for visitors exploring the village. The village setting is complemented by the three-part ceramic sculpture Přesličky, installed on the occasion of Rudice’s 650th anniversary, and by a nativity scene made by Jan Vysloužil.Valley, protected landscape and ethnographic character
Rudice lies in a valley surrounded by hills and forests. A large part of the village is located in the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area, including its biosphere zone. Ethnographically, Rudice belongs to the Luhačovické Zálesí area. This classification also makes the village interesting for travellers who are not looking only for individual buildings, but want to understand the connection between landscape, regional identity and village history. The landscape also includes a differentiated water system. Surface water is carried through a network of streams to the Ovčírka, while water from Rudický vrch, at an elevation of 398 m, flows to the Kladenka. Ovčírka and Kladenka are tributaries of the Olšava.Planning your stay
