Nivnice between local history, tradition and active days

Nivnice combines an unusually rich cultural history with opportunities for varied holiday activities. Here you can discover historical memorial sites, learn about regional traditions, visit a swimming pool with a children’s paddling pool or explore a section of the “Krajem J. Á. Komenského Nivnice – Uh. Brod” cycle path. This allows you to shape your stay in very different ways: with a focus on history and culture, with sport or with a combination of sightseeing and time by the water.

Cultural sites closely connected with Nivnice

The Church of the Guardian Angels stands on a site where a church was already documented in 1403. The museum in the Dr. Josefa Kachníka Foundation House offers another insight into the local history. It was founded in 1966 by the local history circle. The same Foundation House also contains the Comenius Educational Library, founded on 28 March 1928 by ThDr. Josef Kachník, a professor at Charles University who was born in Nivnice.

The Nivnická izba exhibition offers a particularly vivid insight into local life. It was established in 1975 and displays traditional costumes as well as traditional rural furnishings, including a table, chairs, a “láva” and other household items. The access information is important when planning a visit: During the local hody celebrations, Nivnická izba is open to the public; at other times, it can be visited by prior telephone arrangement.

Bartkův mlýn is also one of Nivnice’s defining cultural sites. The water mill complex is a registered cultural monument and is considered the birthplace of Jan Amos Comenius. The memorial room dedicated to Jan Amos Comenius opened in 1992 as an exhibition about his life and work. Since 2002, it has been located in the vestibule of the second-stage building of ZŠ Nivnice, in the immediate vicinity of Bartkův mlýn. Thus, the history of the mill and the Comenius memorial are clearly connected by location.

Water, sport and cycling

The Nivnická Riviera offers a swimming pool and a paddling pool for children. It also includes a sports area with tennis courts and a volleyball court. Those who like to combine different types of activities during their holiday will therefore find opportunities for sport here in addition to spending time by the water. For families with children, the paddling pool is a specific facility within the premises; no other suitability or equipment features are implied.

Cyclists will also find a documented point of interest: The first section of the “Krajem J. Á. Komenského Nivnice – Uh. Brod” cycle path, running through Nivnice, opened in 2009. The year places the beginning of this section in time without anticipating any statements about current operating conditions or other sections of the route.

Regional symbols and local heritage

The “Nivnický kroj” traditional costume is also part of the local identity. It is maintained and preserved for local celebrations and performances by ensembles from Nivnice. The Prágrova distillery adds a different historical note: From 1872, it produced the well-known slivovitz. Together with Nivnická izba and the Comenius sites, these features show that Nivnice preserves not only individual sights but also traditional forms of regional life.
