Kvasice: Castle Park, Churches and Paths Through History
Kvasice combines castle history, sacred art and marked trails for different travel interests. At the heart of the town lies Kvasický zámek amid a park. The transformation from a castle fortress into a château began in the last quarter of the 16th century. Those interested in historic architecture will also find a description here of a Renaissance château with multi-storey arcades and a tower above the new passageway.
Castle Park and Architectural History
Kvasický zámek is closely connected with the park surrounding the château in the heart of Kvasice. For visits, the following applies: the château can normally be viewed from the castle park, while the park is accessible year-round. This also makes it possible to experience the historic site as part of a stay in the town, without separating the history of the building from its surroundings.
Two Trails with Significantly Different Lengths
Marked trails of various lengths are available for exploring Kvasice. The Stezka po stopách historie Kvasic is a 2.5-kilometre educational trail marked in green, with ten stations. It begins at Antoše Dohnala Square by the former town hall.
The red-marked circular trail “Kolem Kvasic” is 11 kilometres long and also includes a walk through the castle park. Compared with the 2.5-kilometre educational trail, it offers a longer loop and includes the park as a separate section. Those who want to learn about the town’s history in a compact format will find the shorter route on the green educational trail; those who prefer a more extensive loop can use the red trail for orientation.
Museum and Churches as Independent Discoveries
The Kvasické muzeum is located in two rooms on the ground floor of the Kvasice Municipal Office. The exhibits include traditional costumes from a Haná family, the activities of local associations, and the history of amateur and puppet theatre. The museum also presents exhibitions on local churches and chapels. It thus complements the town’s buildings with regional everyday and cultural history.
The churches, too, preserve different historical layers. The nave of the Hřbitovní kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie was originally built in the Romanesque or pre-Romanesque style. Renaissance frescoes of Saint Wenceslas and Saint George have been preserved inside, as has a two-part cycle depicting the martyrdom of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The Křížová cesta in Kvasice is designated as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
The church “Farní kostel římskokatolický” dates from the Late Baroque period and is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and Saint John of Nepomuk. The main altar features a painting by Václav Vavřinec Reiner; Ignác Viktorin Raab also contributed to the pictorial decoration.
Trail Network Around Kvasice
Kvasice is one of the places connected by the local trail network Stezky severními Chřiby. In addition to hiking, most routes in this trail network are suitable for mountain biking, running or Nordic walking. This opens up several ways to explore the landscape actively, without limiting Kvasice to just one mode of travel.
