Pacetluky: Forest, Trails and Village History

Between Haná and Záhoří

Pacetluky lies on the boundary between the fertile Haná region and Záhoří. The distinctive character of the village is revealed above all through the combination of landscape, trails and history. Kostelecký les extends to Pacetluky and is an 800-hectare forested area rich in wildlife. The fertile Haná region and the extensive forest area are therefore in close geographical proximity to Pacetluky.

Educational Trail and Historical Traces in the Forest

The Koteleckým lesem educational trail runs through Pacetluky and is 23.8 km long. The ruins of Hrádek, a former Gothic stronghold, are also located near Pacetluky; only the moat remains. Zámeček is likewise located in the surrounding area, in Kostelecký les. The former hunting lodge, built in the mid-18th century, now serves as a forester's house. Both places preserve a historical connection that clearly differs from today's paths through the forest.

Kača and Tereza are locally handed-down names for two peaks in Kostelecký les.

Two Documented Cycling Connections

A cycling route popular with cyclists passes through Pacetluky. It runs along a forest road through Kostelecký les and connects to a local road from Karlovice. In addition, a cycling connection to Holešov follows a paved farm track from Pacetluky through Bořenovice. Holešov is part of cycling route 5033.

From Prehistory to the Village Festival

The history of the village dates back a long way. The first written mention of Pacetluky dates from 1131. Stone hammers, axes and flint knives found in the fields show that the area was already settled in prehistoric times. Archaeological finds of burial mounds in Kostelecký les have been dated to the Neolithic and Bronze Age. The archaeological traces therefore date back far earlier than the first written mention.

The village has a chapel dating from 1946, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Three crosses mark additional specific locations: a cross erected in 1922 stands on the cadastral boundary between Pacetluky and Prusinovice. Opposite the school building in Pacetluky is a cross dating from 1909. The 1909 cross is therefore older than the one on the cadastral boundary, erected in 1922. Another cross stands beside the road halfway between Pacetluky and Prusinovice. The village's living traditions also include the Pacetlucké hodové slavnosti, a recurring two-day village festival.
