Jarohněvice: Landscape, Cultural Traces and Routes

Jarohněvice lies on the southern slope of the shallow Kotojedka Valley, on the edge of the fertile Haná region. From there, the first hills of the Chřiby range rise up. This location combines an open landscape with traces reaching far back into history. A Landscape between Haná and Chřiby

The location in the Kotojedka Valley is not merely a geographical description of the village; it also places Jarohněvice between the fertile Haná region and the foothills of the Chřiby range. Archaeological Traces and Historic Sites

Visible remains of a semicircular rampart and ditch associated with the Lusatian Urnfield culture can still be found in the Jarohněvice area. Another fortification lies on the slope of Obora (Hvězda). It offers a view of the course of the Kotojedka; early La Tène-period stamped pottery finds were also discovered there. East of the village, in the Hvězda woodland, there is an early medieval barrow cemetery.

Among the smaller sacred and local-history features is a wayside shrine near a stream on the road from Jarohněvice to Šelešovice. It was probably erected in memory of the unfortunate death of Ondra, a shepherd from Jarohněvice, in a brickworks in 1700. At the lower end of the village, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands by the bridge over the Kotojedka. In the Přední díly fields, you will also find a stone cross with a relief of Saint Donatus at a crossroads of farm tracks.

The Villagescape and Regional Discoveries

The bell tower of Jarohněvice stands on a small rise at the widest part of the village green, beside the road. The municipality built it in 1740 or shortly beforehand. A statue of the Virgin Mary also stands on the village green beside the road, near house number 23. Cycle Route and Public Transport Connection

Cycle Route 5020 runs through the cadastral area of Jarohněvice. Cycling is therefore a concrete part of getting your bearings locally, without the village being limited to a single type of excursion. On the route through the Obora (Hvězda) woodland, it is still about 400 meters from the forest edge with the Mohylník barrow cemetery to the railway station in the direction of Jarohněvice. This approximate figure refers to this section of the route. Buses also run from Jarohněvice, making it possible to travel in the direction of Kroměříž. This is a relevant consideration if, when choosing accommodation, you take regional connections into account alongside the landscape.

The cultural event “Jarohněvické dvory” is intended to take place annually.
