Tašov: Rocks, Village History and Trails in the Bohemian Central Highlands

Tašov is an old Slavic foothill village in the central part of the Bohemian Central Highlands. The settlement stretches through a depression on the southeastern foot of Kukla Hill, which rises to 674 m. The village’s distinctive character includes its preserved rural architecture, the Tašovské skály rock group and a landscape where forests, varied relief and marked trails come together. You can therefore tailor your stay to different interests: nature and rocks, regional architectural history, or walking and cycling tours.

Tašovské skály: distinctive phonolite rocks

The Tašovské skály rock group consists of 17 hard, in places weathered phonolite formations. The rocks are up to 15 metres high; most routes are between 5 and 10 metres long. Tašovské skály is also a climbing area of local importance. The different heights and lengths help you assess the rock area by its overall scale when planning a day of climbing and compare the routes with one another. The difficulty and accessibility of the individual routes therefore remain open for your specific selection.

Landscape in the protected area

The Tašov area lies within the České středohoří Landscape Protected Area. Its natural assets include extensive forests and a varied landscape with diverse relief. This gives the area a clear landscape context for planning your trip. Village architecture and the Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene

Several examples of folk architecture have been preserved in the village centre. These include partly log or half-timbered two-storey houses with verandas and projecting structures, gables clad in boards, and recessed, carved verandas. Another cultural and historical landmark is the Baroque pentagonal Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene. It stands approximately 0.7 km southeast of Tašov on a wooded hill by the road to Rýdeč and was built in 1707. The chapel is a pentagonal central-plan building with a rectangular sacristy on the north side and a dome. This allows you to view the settlement’s appearance and an individual historic building together during a visit to the village.

Marked trails on Dlouhý vrch

There are also specific options for active days in the surrounding area. From the Tašov–Ovčárna signpost, a marked cycle path runs along the foot of Dlouhý vrch and then reaches the road near Myštice. In the vicinity of Tašov, Dlouhý vrch also offers a marked main viewpoint and three hiking trails. The different trail options help you include cycling and hiking as separate priorities in your plans.
