Nové Město between Moorland and Mountain Landscapes

Nové Město combines experiences in nature, routes through the Ore Mountains and cultural destinations in the surrounding area. The first written mention of Nové Město dates back to 25 August 1341. This gives the town a clear historical connection in addition to its landscape, while the various excursion destinations appeal to different interests within a single trip. The town's history adds a historical dimension to the natural and leisure opportunities and gives the stay a second thematic focus.

Raised Bog, Heathland and Distinctive Mountains

A particularly specific natural attraction is Grünwaldské vřesoviště, located 2.5 km west of Nové Město. The area includes an active raised bog, a bog woodland, as well as transitional bogs and floating mats. The different bog formations give the area its own character: the active raised bog, bog woodland, transitional bogs and floating mats represent different forms of the same natural environment. The surrounding area also includes Bouřňák, Stropnik, Vlčí hora and Kahleberg mountains. The mountains create a clear landscape contrast. Nature observation and mountain landscapes can therefore be viewed as different focal points of the surrounding area without combining the destinations into a single excursion site.

Cross-Country Skiing and a Signposted Hiking Route

In winter, the Krušnohorská magistrála is a defining feature: it comprises 60 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails. The route leads from Nové Město via Moldava, Cínovec, Mikulov and Dubí to Fojtovice and Komáří vížka. An alternative hiking route offers a different perspective, running from Hrob via Vlčí kámen and Vitiška to Nové Město railway station. It is 9.7 km long and has 525 metres of elevation gain. The 60 kilometres form a connection across several towns, while the 9.7-kilometre hiking route with 525 metres of elevation gain has a clearly more compact scope.

Cultural Destinations in the Surrounding Area

The cultural destinations and historical sites are located in different parts of the surrounding area. Osek Monastery is situated near Nové Město. The ruins of Hrad Kysperk and the Osterzgebirge Wildlife Park are located in the surrounding area. Purschenstein Castle is situated in the wider regional area. The Sklářská glassmaking educational trail also adds a special cultural accent: at individual locations and other places of interest, information boards are provided in Czech and German. The bilingual boards provide German- and Czech-speaking visitors with linguistic guidance at the stations.

Nové Město as a Base

The transport situation is a separate consideration when choosing where to stay. Nové Město lies on the Most–Litvínov–Moldava railway line. The town is also connected to Hrob and Teplice by regular bus services.
