Discover Proboštov: Trails, Forest Park and Water Landscape

Proboštov between trails and water landscape

The “Brittánka” recreational circular trail gives Proboštov a clear profile for active days: it is suitable for pedestrians, recreational runners, cyclists and inline skaters. The circular trail includes a viewpoint with panoramic views of the Bohemian Central Highlands. Depending on the chosen mode of transport, the same landscape can be experienced in different ways. In addition, a green-marked hiking trail leads through Proboštov: from the railway station via the forest park and along the dam of Proboštovský rybník.

The railway station itself is also important for orientation. Proboštov railway station is located on the Děčín–Klášterec nad Ohří line; all passenger trains stop there. The green-marked trail connects the station with the town’s natural and recreational areas. If you are looking for accommodation in Proboštov, you can therefore plan your stay according to your preferred focus: the circular trail, the forest park and the water landscape offer different opportunities for walks, exercise and observing nature.

Forest park and activities for different age groups

Proboštov Forest Park was reopened to the public in April 2019. It features three play and exercise areas with outdoor fitness equipment, as well as new play elements for the youngest visitors. This means that one area offers both opportunities for exercise and elements designed for younger visitors. The Educational and Play Trail is an instructional and recreational trail providing information about the fauna, flora, history and present of the forest park and Proboštovský rybník. In this way, the area combines exercise with knowledge of nature and the locality.

Proboštovský rybník

Proboštovský rybník was drained, desilted and revitalized in autumn 2021 after many years. Its dam is 228 metres long, and the water surface covers approximately 5 hectares. These dimensions give the body of water a clearly recognizable spatial character. Water plants such as cattails and large clusters of bright yellow water irises grow by the water. Flocks of ducks and a pair of swans with cygnets can be seen on the water’s surface. The pond thus combines a distinctive landscape feature with visible opportunities for observing nature.

As an additional activity, the Proboštov disc golf course has nine holes. Playing at the Proboštov disc golf course is free of charge. Together with walking trails and the water landscape, the course complements the range of activities with a clearly defined sporting option. Anyone looking for an additional form of play alongside outdoor exercise and the landscape will find an independent activity here.

Tradition and local experiences

Antonínská pouť is a traditional pilgrimage festival held in the Pohodlíčko area of Proboštov. At Antonínská pouť 2022, there were fairground rides, a shooting gallery, other attractions and market stalls. The event expands the natural and recreational offerings with a cultural and community dimension. Those who want to get to know different sides of the town can combine the landscape, activities and local traditions in this way.
