Krásný Dvůr – Château, Landscape Park and Park Buildings
Krásný Dvůr is a destination for travelers who want to combine a visit to a château with a historically shaped park landscape. The main attractions are a château with rooms open to the public, a landscape park covering almost 100 hectares and several unusual park buildings. This allows you to shape your stay in different ways: with a classic tour of the château, by discovering the park or with digital guidance along the paths through the grounds.
A Visit to the Château with History and a Guided Tour
Krásný Dvůr Château acquired its present appearance after extensive renovations between 1720 and 1724. The public tour of the château includes 11 rooms. Most of the rooms open to the public are furnished with historical furnishings, so the tour focuses not only on the architecture but also on the design of the interiors.
Another way to explore the history is the new visitor tour “Šlechta na cestách”. It presents the story of Count Jan Rudolf Černín z Chudenic, an enlightened nobleman, traveler and creator of the landscape park at Krásný Dvůr. This creates a connection between the château as a historic building and the person who decisively shaped the park landscape.
An Expansive Park Landscape with Distinctive Features
The park at Krásný Dvůr was laid out by Jan Rudolf Czernin between 1783 and 1793 as one of the first landscape parks in Bohemia. Covering almost 100 hectares, it provides the expansive setting for the park’s various features.
One of the distinctive natural features is the so-called Goethe Oak. It is estimated to be 1,000 years old and survives today only as a torso. Nearby stands the Gloriet, also known as Malý templ or Venušin chrámek, on a high hill above a pond in the château park. The Chinese Pavilion is an octagonal structure intended to resemble a Chinese pagoda. Poustevníkova rokle can be accessed via a large Neo-Gothic stone bridge. These different elements give the park its own historical and design diversity.
TourStories: Discover the Park at Your Own Pace
Since 1 May 2021, Krásný Dvůr Château has offered the TourStories mobile application as an interactive digital guide to the château park. With the TourStories guide, visitors can explore the park at their own pace. The park guide includes audio commentary, a photo gallery, historical views and park maps, drone videos and music recordings.
This provides different ways to experience the park: you can focus on the historical views, use the park maps or combine the explanations and recordings. This is particularly interesting when a travel group has different interests and not everyone wants to focus on the same aspect during the tour.
Getting There and Finding Your Way Around
For those arriving by car, parking spaces are available about 30 meters from the château gate. During the tourist season, trains operated by Doupovské dráhy run to Krásný Dvůr on the route from Kadaň to Podbořany and back. The stop is about a 20-minute walk from the château. When planning your stay, you can therefore choose between arriving by car and taking a seasonal train service without having to separate a visit to the château from exploring the park.
