Jimlín: Nový Hrad, Chapels and Routes to Pravda

Jimlín is a place where history and sights come together within a small area. At its heart is Nový Hrad, complemented by chapels, Baroque minor monuments and a route that leads through Jimlín to the ruins of Pravda Castle in Džbán Nature Park. If you would like to combine cultural history with an exploration of the landscape, the town offers several clearly distinct highlights to consider when planning your trip.

Nový Hrad and its guided tour routes

Nový Hrad originated as a stone, palace-like fortress built above Jimlín in the 14th century by the knight Záviš z Jimlína. Particularly impressive is an ensemble of eleven painted Baroque plank ceilings, restored between 2007 and 2013. A visit therefore combines the site’s medieval origins with a surviving element of Baroque interior decoration.

Nový Hrad offers visitors two permanent guided tour routes. The tour of the upper floors includes the Chapel of St Joseph. The tour of the lower areas and cellars also leads into the wine cellars and beer cellars of the original castle. Nový Hrad in Jimlín also hosts numerous cultural and social events. This allows visitors to experience the site not only through its architecture, but also through various forms of cultural activity.

Chapels and Baroque traces in Jimlín

The village itself also contains remarkable reminders of its history. The chapel in Jimlín was established in 1853–1854 on a small rise in the village. The new chapel was consecrated on 10 May 1857. In front of Nový Hrad, there is also a Baroque statue of St John of Nepomuk on an ornate pedestal.

East of Jimlín, near Nový Hrad at a crossroads of field paths leading to Zeměchy or to the local cemetery, stands a large niche chapel. Jimlín railway station and the Jimlín/Zeměchy bus stop are available for visiting the chapel in Jimlín. Advance registration is recommended for larger groups and to arrange a specific visiting time at Nový Hrad.

Route to the ruins of Pravda Castle

In the surroundings of Jimlín, the ruins of Pravda Castle lie on a wooded spur above Pnětluky in Džbán Nature Park. The Louny–Jimlín–Pravda (Pnětluky) route passes through Jimlín and then continues via Opočno, Hřivice and Konětopy to the turn-off below Pravda. When planning your trip, you can therefore combine a cultural and historical focus in Jimlín with a route towards the wooded castle ruins.
