Peruc – Hiking, Castle Culture and Art

Peruc is a place where castle history, art and marked hiking trails come together, offering a range of ways to explore. Those who want to combine and compare culture and activity during their stay will find historic buildings, an art-historical legacy and signposted trails with different routes. The town and its municipal area therefore provide several concrete options for planning your day.

Castle, Church and the History of Art

Peruc Castle was built in the Baroque period by rebuilding a Gothic fortress. It is a three-winged building with three avant-corps. Opposite the castle grounds, the elevated Church of St. Peter and Paul is a single-nave parish church built by the architect E. Kondel in 1768–1769.

Art history is also connected with the castle: From 1947 to 1953, Emil Filla worked in part of Peruc Castle, where he mainly created landscape paintings of the Central Bohemian Uplands. In 1958, the Fillova pamětní síň was opened in Peruc Castle.

Hiking Trails with Different Routes

Four marked hiking trails run through the municipal area of Peruc: the red trail Peruc–Slavětín–Louny, the blue trail from Peruc railway station via Chrastín to Libochovice, the yellow trail from Chrastín via Stradonice to Pátek (railway station), and the Perucko Educational Trail. The place names in the route descriptions help you identify the desired direction as early as the planning stage.

The Perucko Educational Trail is a circular route approximately 12.5 km long. It starts and ends at the COOP shopping centre on Komenského Street in Peruc. At 20 stations, information panels provide insights into the history, nature and sights of Peruc and the surrounding area.

Museum and Rural Culture

The Museum of the Czech Village is housed in a former Baroque barn dating from 1876 in Peruc Castle Park; it can be reached through a gate on Emila Filly Square. Exhibits include agricultural machinery, ploughs, fire engines and horse- or ox-drawn carts.

The collection also includes exhibitions on beekeeping and tools used in blacksmithing. The museum thus complements the castle and art history with insights into rural working life and traditional crafts.

Boženina Spring and Oldřichův Dub

Boženina Spring lies in the centre of Peruc. It is fed by a spring emerging from the rock below the castle, is built of masonry and covered by a Neo-Gothic altan.

On the outskirts of Peruc in the Louny District, Oldřichův dub is a memorial tree. There is a prepared resting place by Oldřichův dub. Together with the hiking trails and cultural sites, this offers a choice of local history, landscape and activity, without requiring you to limit yourself to just one way of exploring.
