Vřesovice amid Remembrance, Forest and Trail Stories

In Vřesovice, the memorial, museum and trails take center stage. A special way to explore the history of the village is the Oldřich Pechal and Svatopluk Štulíř Memorial. It is located on the first floor of the Vřesovice municipal office building. In addition, the Vřesovice Museum is open during the office hours of the Vřesovice municipal office. The municipal office’s office hours are therefore the specific point of reference for the museum’s opening times. A visit thus begins not only outdoors on a trail, but also with insights into the local culture of remembrance.

Hiking with Different Points of Focus

Those who enjoy exploring on foot will find several clearly distinct options. The Po hranici educational trail includes seven stops and three information boards. It leads through the forests of the Chřiby Mountains and combines walking in the forest with explanatory stops. The Oldřich Pechal Trail offers a different way to explore the area: the 4-kilometer route includes ten stops and tasks. Photos and audio recordings are also accessible via QR codes. This route thus combines on-site tasks with digital content. A brochure for the trail is available at the Oldřich Pechal Memorial.

The Magická stezka also has its own distinctive character. The 9.8-kilometer trail leads to stops that recall the mysteries and stories of this ancient landscape. The stops give the trail a narrative focus. The trails therefore differ not only in length, but also in how they convey their surroundings: sometimes through information boards in the forest, sometimes through tasks and digital content, or through narrative stops relating to the landscape.

Routes for Children and an Organized Hike

The Bobří stezka is intended for a shorter outing with children. The children’s trail is 2.8 kilometers long and uses questions, stops and information about nature. The questions and nature information are presented together at the stops. Its design turns the journey into a series of small discoveries, without requiring the route to be defined solely by its length.

Another point of orientation for hikers is the Zimní přírodou event. In 2026, it was held in Vřesovice for the 22nd time and organized by the Vřesovice local branch of KČT. In this edition, marked routes covered 5, 8 and 12 kilometers. Registration and the finish were located at the Vřesovice community center. The three signposted distances offer a clearly recognizable choice between a shorter and a longer hike; at the same time, as a specific event of 2026, it remains part of the documented history of the village.
