Ricany – Discover Churches, History and Leisure

Ricany combines distinctive architectural history with visible traces of a former fortress and a variety of opportunities for active days. The Church of St Peter and Paul, the wooded site of the former fortress, the historic Panský dům, and sports and bathing facilities give you different reasons to explore the town.

The Church of St Peter and Paul and the Pilgrimage

St Peter and Paul is a late Baroque religious monument built between 1754 and 1763. Its tower is 32 metres high, making it a clearly defined architectural feature. The church is also associated with a pilgrimage held regularly at the end of June in Říčany. Those interested in religious traditions and historic buildings will find two closely connected themes here: the architectural history of the 18th century and a recurring date in the annual calendar.

Traces of the Říčany Fortress

The Říčany Fortress has been documented since 1349. Its former site is now wooded; the ditch surrounding it is still visible. A memorial stone marks the former site of the Říčany Fortress known as “Zámeček”, which is shown on maps as “Na Hradisku”. The site lies in a forest northwest of Říčany, on a high spur above the valley of the Říčanský stream. The historical evidence therefore appears not only as a date, but also in the form of specific landscape features and a traditional place name.

Panský dům and the History of the “Dvůr”

Panský dům also takes you back to earlier eras. Experts estimate that it was built in the 16th century. The building was part of the farm buildings of the so-called “Dvůr”. Together with the church and the traces of the fortress, this provides a cultural and historical perspective on different periods: the 16th century at Panský dům, the fortress documented since 1349, and the late Baroque church building from 1754–1763.

Sports, Swimming and Winter Activities

Alongside the historical attractions, Ricany also offers concrete opportunities for physical activity. The sports grounds are open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and are freely accessible during operating hours. In winter, ice skating is possible there. Two tennis courts can also be rented on the grounds of the outdoor swimming pool. The water in the outdoor swimming pool is suitable for swimming all year round. When planning your trip, you can therefore combine cultural sightseeing with sports, tennis, ice skating or swimming, without every day having to focus on the same activity.

When looking for a hotel in Ricany, you can therefore first decide which of these aspects is particularly important to you. The historic sites are suitable for a travel plan centred around buildings, local history and pilgrimage; the sports grounds and outdoor swimming pool complement them with active and water-based opportunities.
