Lubné: Hiking in the Halda Valley and Special Cultural Sites

Lubné lies at the foot of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and combines a varied stream landscape with small cultural sites and distinctive hiking trails. This creates a destination where you can combine an excursion through the Halda Valley, historical traces and vibrant local traditions. The waterways around the village are particularly characteristic: the Halda stream runs along the eastern edge of Lubné’s cadastral area, while the Lubenský potok flows through Lubné towards Kutiny.

Hiking between Níhov, Kutiny and Velká Bíteš

A green-marked hiking trail leads through Lubné from Tišnov through the Libochůvka Valley and the recreational area by Níhovský rybník to Velká Bíteš. A shorter, clearly described section runs through the Halda Valley between the Níhov railway stop and Kutiny. It is about five kilometres long. The Níhov railway stop is therefore a suitable starting point for an excursion into the Halda Valley. One variant of the route leads via the road to Lubné and Níhov.

The trail has its own natural character: along the route, you often have to cross the stream because there are usually no footbridges. This special feature is part of the specific experience of the tour and distinguishes it from a continuously paved walking path. The valleys of the Halda and Libochůvka streams, which converge in the nearby settlement of Kutiny, are a popular destination for hitchhikers and hikers.

Kutiny and the Landscape around Lubné

Part of the settlement of Kutiny belongs to Lubné and is a popular place for tourism and recreation. At Kutiny, the Halda stream flows into the Libochůvka from the right. Anyone interested in the local landscape will therefore find here not only a section of trail, but also a clearly recognisable connection between the waterways and the settlements. In the vicinity of Lubné, the protected zone “Lubenský prales” of a natural monument is also located in a deep gorge.

Chapel, Stations of the Cross and Local History

The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary stands on the south-eastern slope of Lubné. It was built in 1885 and has been restored. A traditional pilgrimage mass is celebrated at the chapel every year in May. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is listed under registration number 18350/7-4201. In the direction of Rojetín there is a stone Stations of the Cross with a unique glass cross. There is also a statue of Saint Zdislava, one of the works of the sculptor Lubomír Lacina from Velká Bíteš. In the direction of Níhov, you can reach the spring of St Giles with a statue of its patron saint.

Lubné’s cultural centre also tells the story of the village. It is located in a wooden building that was moved from the settlement of Kutiny. During the war, this building was part of a forced labour camp; today it is used as a cultural centre. In the Borky district, a former mill and remote settlement of Lubné, worked flints and pottery fragments were found.

Traditions and Stays

Local life includes decorating Christmas trees together, as well as monthly creative Fridays on the first Friday of the month. Concerts by the band Listověj have already been held several times in Lubné.
