Elevated setting and historic village center

Křižínkov reveals its character through the combination of landscape, local history and small cultural and historical discoveries. The village is located in the Křižanovská vrchovina highlands at an elevation of 468 meters above sea level. Its first written mention dates back to 1309. The documented history therefore reaches far back, without the village having to be reduced to a single major architectural monument.

A good starting point for getting your bearings is the village square. It has an irregular layout, with several streets branching off from it. This shape makes the village’s organic structure visible and distinguishes the center from a strictly planned development. Those who look closely at Křižínkov will therefore find not only individual sights, but also a village structure in which paths, the square and historical traces belong together.

Fortress, chapel and distinctive landmarks

Parts of solid stone walls are still being excavated at the site of today’s house no. 14. According to tradition, the Křižínkov fortress surrounded by ponds stood there. The distinction is important for interpreting the site: what is visible are excavated wall sections, while the connection with the former fortress is based on tradition. It is precisely this coexistence of a structural trace and narrated local history that makes the site interesting.

Another distinctive building is the Chapel of St. Anne. It was built in 1848 and is a Neoclassical chapel with late Baroque elements. At the same time, it is considered an example of 19th-century vernacular architecture. Its significance therefore lies not only in its date of construction, but also in the combination of different architectural features and its place within the history of rural architecture.

You will also encounter characteristic small landmarks along the roads and at the edge of the village. A tall wooden cross bearing the year 1981 stands on the road to Křoví. On the road toward Katov, there is a cross in the form of a granite column with a corpus Christi. At the southwestern edge of Křižínkov, near gardens and adjoining fields, stand the restored walls of a picturesque triangular wayside shrine. A first marble cross is also completely hidden in the undergrowth near the junction toward Pánov. The two crosses differ specifically in material and form: the tall wooden cross contrasts with the granite column bearing a corpus Christi. Their different locations add the roads to Křoví and Katov to this distinction.

Documented traditions and events

Community events are also part of the cultural character of the village today. Masopust was celebrated in Křižínkov in both 2024 and 2025. In addition, Křižínkov běží is a traditional running event in Křižínkov. Both references broaden the view beyond the historic building stock: here, local history also includes traditional festivals and a distinctive event tradition.
