Senorady – Culture, Nature and Excursions

Senorady combines a vibrant village culture with notable historical traces and a landscape that can be explored in various ways. Regular traditions, exhibitions, a nature trail, and excursions to castle ruins give the village several distinct facets. The range therefore extends from short cultural discoveries to longer tours through the Oslava and Chvojnice valley area.

Culture and History in Senorady

Among the village’s best-known regular events are the Senoradské krojované hody. They are among the most popular cultural and social events in Senorady and retain a distinctly community-oriented character.

The architectural history can also be seen at several points. The central bell tower of Senorady is a valuable late Baroque monument dating from 1807. The chapel on the village square was also built in 1807. During an earlier restoration, a message was discovered in its small tower that had been written in 1955. This detail makes the chapel interesting not only as a building, but also as a record of a later period.

The “Život na vsi” exhibition focuses on everyday life in the past. On display are agricultural and household tools, including wooden wheels from wheelbarrows, a mortar, and an old wooden salt shaker from the 18th century. The e-Museum of Senorady offers another perspective on the village’s history. It covers the development of the municipality and its immediate surroundings from the first settlement through the beginning of the 20th century. The “Keramika doby halštatské” exhibition can be viewed with 3D glasses; these glasses can be borrowed or purchased at the Senorady municipal office.

Landscape between Dry Grasslands and River Valleys

South of Senorady, along the Senoradský véhon, lies an area of dry grasslands. It is home to a population of several hundred large-flowered pasque flowers, scientifically known as Pulsatilla grandis. This specific plant population complements the cultural and historical themes with a natural-history feature.

The Senoradská stezka is also available for exploring the landscape. The nature trail leads through the Údolí Oslavy a Chvojnice nature reserve and connects several viewpoints overlooking the Oslava valley. On the western side of Senorady there is also a hill where a wooden fort once stood. The fort belongs explicitly to the former history of the village and is not described as a structure that survives today.

Excursions with Different Time Requirements

An excursion from Senorady leads to the Templštýn castle ruin. Approximately three hours are specified for the one-way journey. A longer, content-rich tour is “Přes tři hrady a dvě řeky”. It leads to the Kraví Hora castle ruin, Levnov Castle, and the Šance fort, crosses the Oslavka and Chvojnice rivers several times, is approximately 12 km long, and takes about four to six hours. This provides two clearly different time estimates for travel planning: approximately three hours for the one-way journey to Templštýn, and about 12 km and four to six hours for the tour to three historic sites and two rivers.

On the way to the Oslava valley, you can visit Senoradská kantýna. For a playful way to discover the village, there is also the municipal geocaching cache Tvrz Senorady. Historical themes, the landscape, and a modern form of discovery thus complement one another, without limiting the village to just one type of excursion.
