Boudy: Gorges, Waterfalls and Cultural Heritage

Boudy is a place with a tangible history and several clearly distinct areas to explore. The settlement was first mentioned in 1632 under its former name, Hvížďov; at that time, there were three buildings there.

Natural Monuments and Water in Trenckova Gorge

Trenckova Gorge is a rocky gorge in the Bobrůvka Valley between Skryje and Strážek, near Drahonín. It is a natural monument and a site of European importance. Protected features include crevice vegetation on silicate rocks, meaning plants growing in rock crevices, as well as scree slopes and mobile scree, along with preserved remnants of dry acidophilous oak forests and ravine forests. The protected habitats therefore range from plant sites in the rocks through scree to dry oak and ravine forests. For nature enthusiasts, the appeal lies in the changing scenery between open rocky areas and wooded sections.

Water also shapes this landscape. A stream coming from Drahonín forms cascades and waterfalls in Trenckova Gorge; the highest waterfall is 4 metres high. There is also a small waterfall. Along the stream, flowing cascades alternate with water plunging over waterfalls of varying sizes. These different forms of water provide a specific focus for planning your trip.

Cultural Heritage Around Boudy

The area’s cultural history includes the ruins of Rysov Castle, a protected cultural monument on a high spur above the Bobrůvka south of Skryje. Another historical point of interest is Hrádek. The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius stands on the grounds of the medieval Hrádek fortification; a ditch and part of the rampart have survived from the site. The chapel, ditch and rampart thus place sacred and defensive traces side by side. Together with Boudy’s early mention in historical records, this creates a distinctive focus for anyone wishing to combine nature experiences with preserved traces of settlement and fortification.

Paddling Below Boudy

The Loučka (Bobrůvka) paddling section below Boudy is rated WW I–II and is navigable in spring and after rain. The section features a ledge with boulders and a footbridge made of two steel cables leading to the Okawango City settlement; the lower cable is difficult to see. Refreshments are available at Šafránkův mlýn. WW I–II and navigability in spring and after rain concern different planning questions: the rating describes the section, while the time indication specifies the possible period for paddling.

For getting there, IDS-JMK bus route 336 is a specific reference point: it serves the Skryje, Boudy stop. The route from Tišnovská Nová Ves to Tišnov also follows the Bobrůvka and passes through the Boudy settlement. When looking for accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether the history of the settlement, the landscape along the Bobrůvka or the paddling section below Boudy should be the focus of your stay.
