Hajany: Castle History, Monuments and the Bobrava Valley

Hajany is a destination for travelers who want to discover history not only in individual buildings, but also in the character of the village and its time-honored traditions. Castle Complex and Protected Monuments

Hajany Castle is considered a historically significant building that documents the original development of the settlement. Dating from the last quarter of the 19th century, the chapel of the Counts d’Harnoncourt-Unversagt, later the Counts Deym von Střítež, is considered an important example of contemporary funerary architecture, that is, architecture associated with burial and grave culture. For your planning, the access situation at the burial chapel is important: The entrance has been bricked up since the 1980s, and the building is considered structurally unsound or at acute risk. You should therefore regard the chapel as an exterior monument rather than as a guaranteed opportunity to visit the interior.

Historical Traces in Hajany

At the end of the 18th century, the Smetana family had a single-story Neoclassical château with a park and its own family crypt built in Hajany. However, the history of the village goes back further. Hajany originally belonged to the Premonstratensian convent in Dolní Kounice. After 1323, Queen Eliška Přemyslovna exchanged Hajany with the Cistercian convent in Old Brno for the small town of Pravlov. This sequence of events also makes the village interesting for travelers who want to connect architectural history with historical patterns of ownership.

Bobrava Valley and Hiking

The valley of the Bobrava River lies in the immediate vicinity of Hajany and has been a nature reserve since 1982. The area around Hajany is also suitable for hiking.
